Lonesome Gavlan wants my blood

So I get to the door of Pharros after killing Scorpiooness Najka, and I find my friend Gavlan. I give him a friendly wave, but whats this? He is walking towards me weapon drawn, that cannot be right, the guy even has the guts to swing at me.

So after a few searches in Google, playing around with what I have equipped, and a quick save and quit, I still cannot figure out why my old friend wants my blood for no reason. I am wondering if anyone else is experiencing this?

Are you sure it's Gavlan? Gavlan is a Gyrm, and there are Gyrm warrior enemies in the Door of Pharros area.

If it is indeed Gavlan, then go see Cromwell.

This area has enemies that are I guess his brethren or w/e you would call it. It's safe to slay that mofo.

If you want to be absolutely sure it's not gavlan you're killing, check the sin removal NPC in brightstone cove. He wipes NPC aggro if you made a mistake.

Also gavlan is the one downing pints like it's thin air.

Out of boredom I was messing around with my camera and noticed that he has nothing in his drinking cup lol. But it is still pretty funny.
