Are large clubs bugged or just bad?/str build rant
I've been trying out a strength build as I heard they'd fixed them, so far its resulted on me being about 7 or so hours in and my best weapon is the club I bought for 800 souls at the start of the game as NOTHING else good has dropped.

I did find a large club and thought *yay finally a good weapon* but oh no... it says it does more damage.,.. but I've not noticed it doing more, if anything my old club seems to hit for more, and on top of that it doesn't lock on!! with my normal club I lock onto people then attack and my hit will aim at the person even as I try to move after them or move back to avoid hits. If I do that with a large club my body swings around wildly making it almost impossible to hit anything. The only way I've found to make the large club even slightly viable is to stand perfectly still when you use it until the attack has finished.

Large clubs get S scaling on STR after +5 and can go up to 360 damage if you get it to +10, pretty decent, if you want a weapon that can hit for tons in a single hit tho, i'd go for a raw malformed skull +10 (Moveset is kinda like the large club's), it breaks really fast but you can just use the knuckle ring to deal with that, wouldn't recommend using that weapon outside of boss fights/pvp tho cause of how quick it breaks, even with the ring, needs 37 str to use it too and has no scaling, the damage is insane tho.
Yeah you have to aim towards your target while using a Large Club, but a good thing is that you can change direction mid-swing so it actually allows better tracking slightly independent to the auto-lock. Also, upgrade it. Eventually it gets S rank STR scaling and at +10 with 60 STR the bonus is nearly 100% of the base damage. Two-hand it and lead targets into your Strong attack then time it to hit again just as they're getting up(it usually registers after they've raised at least one hand off the ground and are "crouching" getting up).

In PvP, it's harder to use but can still be viable if you know how to bait your target into baiting an attack and punishing them for rushing you.
Well im on 40 str so thats fine, was always intending to just use mega str weapons with my first guy. The problem with the large club is that while it SHOULD do more damage it just doesn't seme to right now, my +3 large club is easily outdamage by my +5club and was even when the club was +4, combine that with the large club being completely irratic and it makes it almost impossible to use.
- Get 60 str
- Get giant warrior club
- Win.
hmmm 60 str... guess I need to pump a few more points into str so I'm ready for it. Not that I rekon it'll make much difference in pvp but at least it might be fun for pve.

Too slow, too heavy, needs harder to find materials to upgrade. Large Club does nearly everything it can do at a lighter weight, lower requirements and less time farming material to build it up.

It's an upgrade with investments. Don't complain.

loving the crap out of this bad boy, currently at +7, even though it doesn't get an S scaling in Str, it still gets up there in the damage.
Shh don't tell anyone but +10 Gyrm hammer is hilariously fun. I've been pancakeing bellbros, rat bastards, dragons dildos and blood invaders for the last few days. Short range but once you get a hit say goodbye. I've also never seen a single person survive a backstab.
Gyrm hammer is the boss.
Tried the other great maces and stuff, but when it came to really heavy strength weapons i feel you can't beat the gyrm hammer, good damage, good scaling, pretty good move set (better than what i have seen with the other giant clublike weapons, instead of just hiting the ground in front of you you can do some spin moves), and it just looks badass.
Even works well in pvp from my experience.

Pretty fast to get as well if you know where to find branches and have a coin to pop for item drop (popped mine, got it on the first gyrm, then got 4 spares...).

I prefer str slamming them with Great Clubs, as it knocks almost every single enemy in the game minus "giant" ones and some bosses, straight into the ground where you can smash them again for the kill (if they survive the first hit). Using the Large Club in Iron Keep, everything dies in a single slam at +5 and around 40 str other than the Captains, which die in 2 hits but are doomed by my first one since they never stand again anyway. Also killed The Lost Sinner with it in about 7 or 8 hits - dodge and str slam his back, roll away, rinse and repeat. Like another has mentioned, Malformed Skull (dropped from those big scorpion blob dudes near the Sinner's Rise boss) is pretty good too - the only issue with it is that the stats and such don't make sense to me. It is a Strike weapon, great hammer, just like the Large Club. Yet my Large Club at +5 did more damage than Malformed Skull at +4, which would normally make sense, yet, Malformed Skull had a higher damage stat at +4 than Large Club at +5. Why did it do less damage? Right now at +6, Malformed does about 720 per strong strike to Iron Keep knights. At +5, Large Club does about 650 to the same enemy per strong strike, yet has 122 less physical attack (Large Club has 270 at +5, Malformed has 392). It seems like Malformed should be doing more damage to me, I don't know. Not really even 100 more damage per strong strike, and it has 20 durability (Risk of Breaking after about 6 or 7 of the knights in Iron Keep, who die in one hit) compared to Large Club's 70 which means it breaks at more than 3X the speed. To me this makes it impractical as the damage is too negligible to matter and it breaks so fast. Other than one situation - boss fights. It has one advantage over the Large Club other than some extra physical damage - it is slightly faster too (but slightly shorter). This makes it easier to hit bosses with, and most bosses (at least earlier ones - and single ones) should die before it breaks. So it's probably only viable if you swap to it before entering the mist, and smashing a boss' face in. There is an upgraded version of the Large Club in The Gutter though. Same durability as Large Club, but more base damage - problem is that I think it still breaks quite a bit faster than the Large Club despite it's durability (it's a deceitful stat in this case).

I only ever use a smaller weapon (the regular Mace that you can buy from the blacksmith in town right now seems to be the best of all the smaller Str weapons I've found, including its magic variant) is when I'm facing a larger enemy that moves fast enough to not get hit by my large club without risk of me getting hit too.
