stop killing Steady Hand McDuff in Lost Bastille

I seen this guy missing in alot of peoples games through via summon. I would like to tell you all to stop killing this guy, he the only npc that will allow you to infuse your weapons with fire/magic/poision/and etc at any time you want, as long as you have the proper stones that is. Please, do not kill him and instead light the torch stand in the room. By the way, incase you think I am lying here, take a look at the screencap below.

Update:
Do not listen to anyone who tells you to kill him and says he drops "xx thing" below. The guy only drops 1 Titanite Slab when killed, you are better off lighting the torch stand then obtaining a ''Dull Ember'' which is located at the ''Iron Keep'' then after obtaining it you just go back to talk to him with the Ember in your inventory then you will be able to shop and stuff from him. In case you want to know what is in the chest, it contain the following: a Craftman's Hammer and 1x Twinkling Titanite.

Guys I heard he drops 5 Twinkling Titanites + Soul of a Blacksmith when you kill him. Why would you even leave him alive? Kill the man in every playthrough for maximum profits!!!

You get a Slab and a Twinkling for killing him

and you can get a slab if he's alive

So get both.

That soul of a blacksmith will get you one of the best weapons in game. Still, nothing holds a candle to Gavlan's soul of the drunkard, which Ornifex will craft into the Mug of Doom, which casts Toxic Mist on impact.

McDuff so dull... always complains about needing an ember. Never bothers to find it himself. I go beat dull McDuff over the head with a wooden ladle because he wouldn't shut up about an ember. Dull McDuff now Flat McLadle.

@OP: I'm sure most people are just stupid enough to get enemy agro / and/or exploding barrels onto him in mistake. Too scared to try it myself and personally I like the sound of his banging.

McDuff is obsessed with flames. The good ol' witch of izalith was the same. Therefore he must be the witch in disguise.
And you know what? The witch was responsible for the demon ruins/lost izalith. Solaire died there. McDuff is Solaire's killer. AVENGE HIM MY FELLOW BROTHERS!
