Nashandra vs Gwyn
So I just completed my first playthrough of DS2 and it was super fun. But once again I was kind of dissapointed with the final boss fight again. Don't get me wrong I love both final boss fights in DS1 and DS2, the music and atmosphere created is really cool, BUT... They just aren't that hard sadly. When I think of a final boss fight I imagine it being the most challenging fight in the game. What do you guys think?

I just finished the game ( not yet the optinial bosses ) , and i must say ... i did like gwyn a bit more , because the setup was much better ... you knew he was waiting for you, you know that this old guy is immensly powerful and he was definitly intimdating , not the hardest boss, but intimdating....

The Music was in both cases wonderful, it is always a nice epiloge ... the journey nears its end etc , at gwyn it was very heart wrenching ... seeing that old dude lift his sword...

but Nashandra... no real build up, just hey it s me , you did great .. now die please ... , the model itself was somewhat boring and the fight itself was easier than gwyn .. even as a melee =)
I think that a ressurected vendrick with fast attacks would have been, just horrific but fitting as an optional "true" end boss.
I was amazed to be able to actually poison that grim reaperette. Went in stabbitystab with dual Mytha's and that toxic damage ate her up.
I always wonder.. Why the ''final boss'' has always to be the strongest boss ? Why we need to keep this trope alive ? What I do enjoy in dark souls is the fact that a mere commonplace hollow can still surprise you and kill you.

Think about this.. It make no ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sense. A final boss does not have to be the most powerful, awesome creature of the whole damn game.. It's not the final destination that matters in a good story.

The final boss or any boss is not what has to make a game .. great. Has you grow older you get tired of these kinds of overused trope in story or video game.

AHh yeah of course... The big bad boss at the end of the game ... ZzZZZZZZZZZ

Anything is better than King Allant.

However the true king is supposed to be more of a metaphorical fight, I consider (even though not the last fight of the game) the false king allant to be the final boss since the true king is a narrative technique rather than a boss *shrug* to each his own
You can do two things with Gwyn, parry and cheese him to finish it in under a min then complain that the fight is too easy, or dont parry and watch how he can 2 shoot you if you make a little mistake. With Nasshandra, you just beat the s.hit out of her because she literally does nothing but curse you (something you can fight through with a Lifegem).

Also, the setting for Gwyn is just a million times better than Nasshandra, parrying him makes the fight easy, but every piece of information about him and even his name (Lord of Cinder instead of Sunlight) tell you that he is just a shadow of what he was, that he's just an old and tired man, and that the fight must be easy.

Nasshandra setting is... the f.uck I know, honestly, I didn't like the lore a single bit, a TLDR of it would be pretty much: Some dude went and stole something from the giants, and build his kingdom, then the Giants came for vengeance, destroyed the kingom but also died while doing it. The King married ♥♥♥♥♥♥ Nito without knowing it, went crazy and hollow, now ♥♥♥♥♥♥ Nito stays in the castle doing jack s.hit and she's going to appear as the final boss because.. for some reason thinks she can kill you... 10/10 story FROM, I don't know who write it, but it was a million steps down compared to DeS and DaS story/lore.

Well both of them can be rather hard at first, as with both of them the real danger is not knowing their little tricks, for instance fighting gwyn without parrying or rock cheeseing is acctualy fairly difficult and fun, just like bum rushing nashandra with a melee build is really quite difficult just because of the curse, but once you learn to parry gwyn and kite nashandra both fights become trivial.
Well for my first few playthroughs of DS1 I didn't know you could parry gwyn and I admit it was a lot more challenging because the old guy still has a lot of fight in him :L The thing I disliked most about the nashandra fight is that it didn't feel as final ( as in it didn't feel like the end of the story) because for the whole game we are only told about Vendrick, vendrick, vendrick. But then we find out that vendrick is a sad looking hollow, even more sad looking than hollow gwyn. Nashandra is just sprung on us when the game is 99% over which I didn't like. The build up to an epic finale just wasn't there
I Would agree. With nashandra, the atmosphere is nice, but the setting is strange, and feels slightly forced to me.

In dark souls 1, the slow approach through the molten and charred kiln, god-knows how far beneath the surface of the world had a great atmosphere.

Gwyn's attacks were suitably overwhelming, yet noticeably a shell of their former self. Much better than the strange, out-of-place fight with nashandra.

-SLIGHTLY OFF TOPIC-

What left me especially confused, was..

Why is the option given to kindle the first flame in DS2? The flame is never seen in game, or referenced prior to the ending.

has the gargantuan structure that was the old kiln somehow magically turned into a teeny little stone throne roughy a few hundred metres under drangleic castle? If so, where's the flame? DAFUQ IS DIS

I wish The Lost sinner was last boss instead.

He isn't that crazy good look wise, but it feels like an important fight. Also, I like to think the lost sinner is the chosen undead from DkS1, making it more epic :3

The throne is inside a kiln, probably burning you after you sit on the throne, as in DaS1

I'd have to disagree with you there :L In my own head cannon I like to think vendrick is the chosen undead from DS1 . I like this head cannon because then the full circle effect that numerous NPC's talk about is complete. The fire is linked, prosperity occurs, the fire fades, a chosen undead links the fire. Rinse and repeat. To me, Vendrick is us from Dark souls 1.
