Mainly in-game item descriptions, NPCs and even the design of the locations and placement of items can add to the understanding of the world and the lore.
Read item descriptions.
Talk to NPCs.
Speculate.
Epicnamebro on youtube is really good. Look up is lore vidoes.
I think thats his name. ive been avoiding his channle like the plauge because of spoilers.

ENB hasn't done any lore videos yet, but VaatiVidya already has a few up. ^_^
Putting together the pieces of the puzzle :)
People are saying this isn't as good as the first for lore, but I don't think it's been properly explored/thought about yet.

Good to know, Thanks!
I think I saw he has done some DS2 content but I think I unsubed to avoid it.
They intentionally left most of the lore out of direct texts and dialogue (which, in itself, is part of the lore), and even those often state something then say it is only rumour. So most of it is actually pieced together by the few things that are told and the world itself (locations of things and undead, subtle hints in the background, broken pieces of something on the floor, a specific creature crawling in a cutscene). It is all quite subtle, and TBH, so far I think it was executed a bit better in DaS 1 than in 2, but maybe I'm just not good enough to spot it myself :)

I quite like the approach, instead of getting 'the truth' handed to you on a platter, you are encouraged to figure it out on your own. It reminds me a bit of Morrowind; not the main storyline or the books, but the Dwemer ruins and their story. But FROM has taken it to a whole new level.
Sometimes, various items descriptions and conversations don't immediatly link up. But when you look closer at the connections, you can quickly build your knowledge of the lore.
The lore to me is quite simple and it makes sense really. I come alive (somehow) and go talk to these 3 Joan River wannabe chicks, after the conversation you then realize you need to just kill anything that moves. you then decide you want to look cool while doing it and find the biggest guy with a hammer to help you achieve the coolness. then you feel like praying to the Jesus sister next to a bonfire. then go pwn noobs. Good story imo. cant wait for the sequel.

EpicNameBro talks quite a bit about the lore and his speculations to it in his playthrough though.
