Shrine of winter won't open?

I've already killed the 4 bosses and rekindled 4 primal bonfires. What more does it take to open the doors?

I know 1million SM will open it, but I thought that was a case of having either first.

I'm pretty sure you can only kill 3 bosses prior to opening the door.

Nope, you can and pretty much should kill all four. Shrine of Winter just lets you go up to the castle. All 4 great souls are obtainable before that.

Yeah, if you didn't do this, then you technically didn't "embrace" the four great souls.

I have no ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ clue why the other three just give them directly to you and you have to actually pick freja's up, but you do. Otherwise, you need 1 million soul memory to get through, as said above.

This is not true, feel free to craft/use their souls, they are not important to opening the door at all.

You don't need 1 million souls, you need to have ever gotten 1 million souls in the whole history of your character. it's a stat saved in the very top right of your character info.

OK GUYS. i unfotunately bought this game on xbox but i seem to be having a related issue.... I have killed all 4 great souls and i obtained frijas so aswell from the ground, i have 1.08M soul memory and this is my first play through but the shrine will still not open. (no i do not have all 4 in my invetory as i used freijas and the poison queens as well to make the wepons) but that shouldnt change anything as it is like as counter on the door rather then actually having to bring them there. I'm just not sure whats going on here...

are great souls and primal bonfires that you need to kindle.

Killed the lost sinner, old iron king, duke, the rotton. also picked up the red orb and kindled all bonfires. i have 1.08m souls in memory. when i go to the shrine the door says "Closed"

It has to say "great soul embraced". If you killed the duke, you still have to embrace the Great Soul that appears in Freja's Boss Arena. Freja's soul is not actually the Great Soul, in fact the soul you pick up does not appear in your inventory.
