For you knowledge ALT+F4 saves before the game exits
Everyone is like OH ALT+F4 will corrupt your save or blah blah. WRONG. I constantly use ALT+F4 to exit my games because when you use it. the game auto saves and then quits. watch where the save sign would be on your screen then ALT+F4. it comes up saves and THEN your game exits. its just so fast that most people dont see it.

For you health.

Its the exact same thing as hitting Cntl-Alt-Delete..selecting "Start Task Manager" right clicking a process, and selecting "End Process"

Yeah it is. i just double checked. i loaded up my save and right after the game was loaded i hit ALT+F4 it imedatly went into a loading screen and the save fire came up in the corner and then exited. looks like it works just fine.
the game is constantly saving by default, thats why you were where you were, alt f4 does not start the saving process, the game is always doing it, by f4ing you are risking closing mid save.

It even gives you a message telling you to exit the game properly and that it couldn't save data properly, alt f4 is not a proper exit method and will eventually corrupt your save.

I've had to use ALT+F4 to close the game down several time now due to black screens when trying to setup downsampling. Always had warnings afterwards, about corruption and maybe items going missing etc - never had any real problems but I wouldn't like to experiment either lol. I've just been quiting form main menu, the ALT+F4 when game starts to load menu again - not had any warnings or anything this way, and it's only an extra 5 seconds max, no taxing at all.

I would assume if you are stuck at a black screen between loading areas then this could cause problems randomly. the reason is because every time you load in a new area the game auto saves right when you spawn in. im pretty sure it even saves before you travel to a new area so if you try to load in that save it might do something its not supposed to do and corrupt. I would say saving the game and exiting could corrupt the save file anytime for any reason. it happened on the first dark souls on ps3/xbox and even the PC port so it will happen on the 2nd one as well.

you feel ?..Check the internet out. There are hundreds of posts about people who hae corrupted their save files in many games by using ALt-F4. Your just lucky so far. You have no technical knowledge on it..Just personnel experience which does not count for much.

BBOOOOO HOO MY SAVE CORRUPTED. Guess what bro. this is common with the dark souls games. saves will just corrupt for no reason what so ever so why dont you "check the internet" for dark souls corrputing game files randomly.

Well keep on doing it then ..Thats your problem.. Nobody is going to except your opionion, on it hasn't happened to me yet however.

LOL thats the biggest load of hogwash i have ever heard. ALT F4 gives the program a command to shut down. Just straight up ending task kills it without giving it a chance to save.

It tells you to exit the game properly but doesnt give you a clue as to how to shut it down properly. ALT F4 is a proper shutdown method because the game saves before exiting when you do it that way.

alt f4 ends the task forcefully, it doesn't send any information to the program.

You don't have the faintest idea what it does. I have seen several threads already in this forum..the one common factor is they all used Alt-F4. So your never going to convince me of anything. Otherwise why would people use it to exit from a fight they are losing if it just saved your place anyway..

the ignorance is strong with this one

Im sorry you feel that way. when i use ALT F4 the game saves just fine for me. of course im not in combat and i am not a scrub so i dont do it while i am invaded.

ALT F4 is a shut down COMMAND. Aka it commends the program to shut down. there are plenty of games available that ignore ALT F4 and in dark souls 2 case it is a command to save and shut down.

Going into the task manager and just clicking End Task just straight up kills the program, any program.

dark souls, once again, is constantly saving, every few moments, the alt f4 command in this game does nothing but end the process, you have been lucky to have no adverse efefcts, but it can and will affect saves if you contiune.

You're right it's a command to shut down and that's all.

If it was programmed to auto save on alt f4 (just lol) it wouldn't give you error messages and tell you to use the ingame exit.

It's fine you've never had problems but don't pass it off as fact when it's known to cause problems in any application.

Well, I got a message telling me that my save was missing DLC and that I'd need to reaquire it.

Mind you, it would take about ten lines of code to trap Alt+F4, save the game properly and then quit. Why the hell From software didn't do this is beyond me.
Don't get me wrong I like the game and all, it's just that there's simple stuff that could make the game better.
