Belfry Gargoyle: How to deal with them.

Hey guys,
So I noticed a lot of people seem to be having issues with beating the Belfry Gargoyles because they get invaded time after time, or there are simply too many enemies to deal with at the same time. Well: here is a little written tutorial (video tutorial will come later on, subscribe to http://www.youtube.com/user/imjustacowlol in order to see the video immidiatly when it is out) on how to beat the Belfry Gargoyles.

-Phase 1: The initiation-
The first thing you want to do is: Sprint from your bonfire toward the entrance to the Gargoyles. Gray Shades are very likely to spawn in this area, since it is a part of the game and the enemy players are 'protecting' the bell. One way to avoid this, is by disconnecting your internet (dont do it with the game opened). The game will spawn an npc shade, but you can avoid him by just going through the white mist. Okay, so initially when you go on the roof, there will be 2 gargoyle statues coming to live. At 90% of their collective hp the 3rd will come, at 80% the 4th and at 60-70% the 5th will come (be wary, there is a maximum of 4 gargoyles at the same time). The best thing to do is immidiatly when you get on the roof, go to the left to the closest gargoyle and wait for him to spawn. When he spawns he will most likely swing his spear twice, block both attacks with your shield and then attack the gargoyle with 1 or 2 strikes (depending on your stamina, weight, attack speed). This will give you a small adventage.

-Phase 2: Early combat stage with 2 gargoyles-
Once you've dealt your first strike, all you gotta do is walk around on the roof and wait for one of the 2 gargoyles to open up his defenses.. Preferably you focus the one you've already damaged, and it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you pick one of the 2 gargoyles, and focus him first. It is very unlikely that you kill one of the 2 gargoyles before the 3rd will spawn. But you will need to finish him off as soon as possible because 2 gargoyles is a lot easier to deal with then 3.

Opened defenses are usually found when one of the gargoyles have just attacked you. He will not be able to attack you again for about 2 seconds. If the other gargoyles are away far enough, you want to strike the gargoyle 1 or 2 times, and then run around again before he can retaliate.

When do gargoyles have opened defense?
1) When slashing twice with their spear
2) When breathing fire they wont move. If you get behind them you can easely deal 2 strikes before they will initiate a new attack (be wary of other gargoyles though)
3) After attempting to stab you with their spear (not recommended to attack here, however it is worth it when they're low health). They will not attack for a shorter duration then when they do their other attacks, but you could still strike and get away

When are they not targetable?
1) When flying to strike you
2) It is not recommended to attack them if they are all in a tiny area
3) When using an electricity-ish attack (also airborne)

-Phase 3: halfway through-
If you have killed one of the gargoyles, then maintain the tactics of phase 2, if there are 3 or more gargoyles continu here. As soon as there are multiple gargoyles you want to maintain a similar tactic to phase 2. You want to keep moving around, and wait for them to open up their defenses. But since there are 3+ gargoyles you really want to watch out. There is this combo that when one of the gargoyles stabs you in the back, a second one flies at you, and the third one just swings his spear at you (this phase is already lethal) that can not be avoided when it has been initiated. Another thing the gargoyles are a lot more likely to do from this point on is breathing fire. This can not be fully blocked wtih most shields, but it will absorb reasonable damage. Just keep running around, and wait for them to make a mistake so you can strike. It is a waiting-game really.

-Phase 4: End game & aftermath-
Once you've finally killed 3 of the gargoyles, and there are only 2 left use the tactics of phase 2 again. From this point on, if you still got sufficient health supplies and you dont fk up, it is quite easy to win the fight. Just be patient and do NOT become to greedy. Once you have killed all 5 of the gargoyles, you will get 25k souls, a gargoyle soul and the next area will be unlocked. If you move on to the next area, the first thing you really really want to do is to activate & rest at the newly found bonfire. Gray Shades are still very very likely to spawn in this area, since you still in that Belfry area, so be cautious. You could always burn an human effigy to avoid them of spawning.

Now you have done the fight, congratulations. It was quite hard in my opinion, and it took me about 7 tries (deaths due to Gray Shades not counted in) before I finally managed to do so. The equiqment I used are those: Drangleic sword, old giants helmet, drangleic armor & leggings, this random roman-looking shield from Heide's Tower Of Flame area, drangleic gauntlets, 4 estus flask charges, 10 radiant lifegems and 1 silky stone.

Yeah... The Dark Soul 1 gargoyles were extremely hard (took me like 3 hours lol) I was lucky to make this one. I hate dem gargoyles :)

Nope. And even if it does: A new gargoyle will spawn anyway so you'll have to use about 7-10 of those skulls to kill all of em.
