Rat King Covenant So Unfair!
And I freakin' *LOVE* it!

(minor spoilers)

How much do you love/hate this method of PvP and what are your best moments? Belltower counts too since it's also all trollin' all the time, though I haven't done that yet and got it to max rank like I did with the rats.

for me, I entered the Grave area and had no idea this was the area for the rat covenant. I got summoned within seconds of staring at the laughing green hollow in the entrace hallway. Knowing nothing about the layout and the enemy/traps placement I went in carefully, and started clearing some of the rats around the first room with the broken fountain. Some mace/greatshield wearing rat ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ came through the opposite doorway. We proceeded to exchange blows, and I was able to get the upper hand and drop him to 15% health. Instead of letting him run away and start healing, I pursued him, but he was backing up into even more rats I hadn't anticipated. They surrounded and stunned me, and he was able to get away to estus. It went downhill from there. That was the only time I invaded an enemy maze before I could make a break for the exit and join the covenant myself.

Then I started my reign of terror. It was so unfair that I was able to win 33 fights (2 tails I collected from fallen rats comrades,) and lose only ONE fight against this one guy that had some really amazing gear (he made me use 3 holy blessings, all my estus and a lifegem and I still lost.) One other fight ended up in a stalemate as we both killed eachother at the same time, but I still got the reward for vanquishing him, so Hurrah for Victory! I did all this by liberally exploiting all the rat ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ tricks; hiding around corners, letting my rats chew on their behinds, lure the enemy into even more rats to surround and gangbang them, take damaging advantage of their open defenses while they strike rats, running away to estus, firing arrows from behind the waterfall and my rat vanguards, the works. The acid pools were the only things I never ended up using. Only once did someone have the good sense to run past me and head for the exit and they succeeded.

I got all my rat tails in the grave of saints. I hadn't explored Phaross' yet and didn't want to stop this ludicrous win streak and fun I was having. Plus, I hadn't yet run out of rat helpers in the Grave of Saints. I'm through with this covenant though, It's so unfair, the kill rewards are crap, and I want to keep progressing in the game, but man was it fun while it lasted :B1:.

My friend told me that he loved being a belltower phantom. He stood on top of the floor 3 ladder and blew up all the powder barrels with force and self-destruct, scaring people half to death.

TL;DR: Whaddya think about this unique covenant? Great, eh? Cowardy scrub stuff?

Edit: Maxed both these covenants. See post 9 on page two for reaction.... Cuz I just now found out there's no achievement for collecting rank 3's.

Yes.

I'm really not happy with any of the covenants for pvp. I heard BoB has dueling, but I haven't gotten around to trying it yet and I'm not sure how "proper" it is.

Well if you're looking for a "fair fight" covenant, the 3 duel covenants are the ones. You really don't need more than 3 dueling covenants, do you? Were you hoping for PvE races or something?

I've heard it's really inactive, so I haven't bothered to switch from Bell just to try it. It's my understanding that you're dueling for red eye orbs too, so I'd be worried that people are still just playing for the kill, and not for the fight.
Those covenants seem to be mid-game covenants and the game is pretty new. Just give it time. Some people will even switch over from the bells/rats when they get bored and the rewards they get from it become irrelevant.

Most people are still trying to get through their first playthrough and don't want to spend a lot of time doing things they feel they'll want to do later instead.

I got my 35 wins in rat covenant, is there anything of value of staying in rat covenant now? I don't need any more pharros stones apparently (35 seems to be more than is needed).

I got like 40 wins (estimated) in bell tower, but the guy isn't promoting me to rank 2 yet. I'm using poison a lot, do i need to be last hitting them? Other phantom getting the kills?

Rat covenant was really fun, but unfortunately even on ng+ i don't see any reason u'd do this? Not even sure if you're elligible for rewards again on ng+, unless your rank is reset. Would be cool if you could get rank 4 rewards, etc, in ng.

Nah, there's no point after 35 tails in the Rat Covenant except for trollin and the really thin number of souls harvested. Sometimes, although rare, you might even die and get hollowed, so there are better things to be doing.

I don't know much about the bell covenant, sorry.

Rat covenant is WAY WAY more "fair" than the bell conventant since its essentially a 1v1 pvp with mobs involved...Not to mention that you can avoid fights entirely via burning a human effigy to get into the bonfire in front of the boss room...

Bell covenant is actually bias towards the invaders if you're smart with your movement. You can summon a phantom AND use flasks while the invaders can't...Sadly most of the players here are either hollowed or YOLO-ing through the tower thus making them easy targets for potentially 2v1 fights...

You can really burn an effigy at those fires?

And that bell covenant sounds like a gas. I can't wait.

Do your anus a favor and stay well away from dueling arenas, unless you like full havel fast rollers to kill you in one washing pole swipe.

I dunno if I'd say the rat covenant is more "fair". If you are a troll at heart, you can activate all the traps at the dungeon near Pharros Door and then burn a bonfire ascetic which will level up all the mobs in your dungeon. Stay up top near the bonfire and shoot away!

The only reason to be in bell keepers for me is to get some titanite slabs? I think it was?
But most of the time it's just mindless gangbanging, especially towards players who invade since they can't heal or summon phantoms.

Also, because the other covenants seem rather empty at the moment, There's a lot of invading/invaded in bell keepers so I guess this is way people PvP here. I think that as the game ages people will populate those covenants.

You got to burn it in majula (I doubt you can burn at the tomb area) and you will have about 60 mins to make it to the boss room bonfire (which is plenty of time especially since the area is extremely short)...Once you are in the boss room bonfire, you won't be invaded (unless you leave your destinated spot...)

Belfry Luna and Sol are more "unfair" in the sense that you can bypass them by burning effigies but if you're doing badly at the boss fights and run the timer out, you've got to burn another (since there isn't a boss room bonfire)...

Not sure about Sol but in Luna, you CAN summon a phantom (with some luck and smooth internet connection) to assist you up the tower in case there might be invaders. Most of the time, you will catch the lone invader in a 2v1 (you and phantom versus 1 invader) or if ur unlucky, 2v2 situation (you and phantom vs 2 invaders)...EITHER WAY, the invaders WILL be in a disadvantage since they can't use flasks but the host (you the player) can (along with your phantoms). Use that to your advanatge rather than YOLOing up the tower and donating close to 100+ chunks to even the most casual of invaders like myself...:tdealwithit:
Does the seed of giants work in the belfries to make mobs attack the phantoms? Cuz that would be amazing.

Not worth it since the area is so short to begin with...

Yea, it's super cowardly. Which is great cause it enrages the more honorable players. Makes for great team pride on both sides. I've definitely seen a lot of comments on this forum about "YOU MUST BOW BEFOER A DUEL, YOU HAVE NO HONOR" vs. "lol git gud newb". To each his own, I guess.

I've paused to see if my opponent is gonna bow. He does the same. I start to bow, knowing he's going to charge. Then he charges. It's obvious. Good thing you can roll out of a gesture. You're never going to get people to follow a code of honor in pvp. Jesus. This is the Internet in 2014.

Ratbro takes to long to get visitors to fight. All that waiting around and abusing traps to get the upperhand on opponents just isn't fun for me. Plus, I suck at pvp, so it's extra embarrassing when I lose lol.
