DARK SOULS™ II

DARK SOULS™ II

How do you break down walls?
I noticed that in the first castle you come to, at the bonfire; some people have broken down the wall immediately to your right the moment you enter the room.

How did they do that?

(the castle with the Last Giant and Pursuer)

SPOILER of course

There are fire barrels you can blow up on the other side of that wall.
You will notise some barrels, throw somethiung at them to make them explode which blows a hole in the wall
there's barrels of gunpowder on the other side of the wall, throw a fire bomb into them or try make the one who throws them hit them
Or use your nifty firesword and swipe it. You can also use your torch, like me on accident my first go . . . :D
Or let the firebomb thrower "help" you like he did for me :) I survived with 1% life and a racing heart beat xD (I didn't expect gun powder barrels so the BOOM at point blank range was rather surprising)

If you have a tower shield you can also use the [ Slam ] attack on the barrels, it causes sparks that will explode.

Of course it might not be a good idea to try if you think you can't survive the explosion
Thanks.

By the way, are there illusionary walls in this game like in Dark Souls 1?

The only illusionary walls have to be revealed by lockstones.
This time they are closer to secret passages and the only way to find them is mash your activate button on literally every flat surface in the game.
I'm not kidding.

I'm playing on PC. What exactly is A/X/action supposed to represent?

So, what are lockstones, how are they acquired, and do you need them for every wall or just some?

So in Dark Souls 2, you need to press the interact button as opposed to merely hitting walls with your weapon as you did in Dark Souls 1?
