The Soul Geyser nerf ruined the spell, period.
I do understand that apparently it was somewhat "too strong" pre-nerf. But let's check the facts:

- it can be tricky to properly aim
- it takes away an enormous portion if not all of your stamina per cast
- it has a long cast time and low number of casts

Using the Giant Lord at maximum difficulty as a Benchmark as he serves as a nice big easy to hit target, at INT 80 one cast of Soul Geyser does comparable damage to two casts of Crystal Soul Spear.

One cast of SG takes about as long as two casts of CSS. And casting two CSS leaves you with more stamina than one cast of SG.

Add to that the fact that SG is more difficult to properly aim, this supposedly "ultimate" sorcery spell is now weaker and more impractical to use than the "inferior" CSS.

So while I do understand the need for a better balance, this spell is now crippled in comparison to the other spells, not balanced. If there was a need to balance SG, they should've been consequent and should've "balanced" CSS as well.

Great, I'm going out of my way to explain why I think the nerf has overdone it and all I get for that is sheer ignorance. What did I even expect..

I already stated that I understand WHY there was a nerf. It's about the RESULT though. The result is that this spell now is weaker than other spells which are still pretty strong and I don't think THAT was intended.

well, its a spell for certain situations, just like projectils are worse in CQC its exceeds in places where you cant turn your tail and run, its a certain kill (hit) on bridges if the other side isnt able to counter (run away from) it, but sure, there are better spells for most of the other situations
It used to be insanely, insanely overpowered. Now it's very, very situational.
It's crap and not worth a spell slot in PvP

It used to be very situationally powerful, now it... sucks.

Still have plenty of tools to destroy.. but SG is not one of them.

I guess they didn't want us slotting it? It has all the utility of the Ring of the Dead

That sounds like a ♥♥♥♥ nerf, but its nothing to get mad over. Besides, magic is still the best at everything, just move on to one of your many other broken spells.

I think we all know that not only spells can be very powerful in this game. Using the right buffs, infusions, enchants and equipment, melee weapons can be even more powerful than spells.


Well, at least some people seem to get my drift. And I'm really trying not to be butthurt, guys. It's as Xehanoth has implied, there are still plenty strong spells. For example Crystal Soul Spear or Great Resonant Soul. It's not the point that there are no powerful spells anymore. It's that they basically crippled a spell that was supposed to be at least as strong as those other spells, not necessarily stronger.

But now this spell is more impractical to use than those other spells and at best does comparable damage. Compared to Great Resonant Soul it's even weaker. There really is no reason to slot this spell any longer.
Sounds more like butthurt from people that don't know where their roll button is.
I agree with you that it was not balanced properly for the type of spell that it is supposed to be. But it will be hard to have an intelligent discussion on Steam Forums.

I see that someone learned the resurrection spell... now please remove it from your attunement slot, so that we can avoide reviving more dead threads.

It had to be nerfed but now I barely even use it do to the nerf.
