That boss is cheap and really frustrating. If you can get them to bunch up you can one to two hit swing them all at once. This is the only boss I died on around 70 times. It's not just you, this boss is based on how lucky you are, nothing to do with skill so don't worry about it.
You'd think, given the dubious history of collision detection in the Souls games, that they would have put some effort into making this aspect of the game better, not worse.
This reason is valid. If you prance about and not swing to quickly knock out those tiny rats this big mother fudger will smash you down in a hit. This boss feels cheap, it's difficult due to the tiny minion rats which isn't fair lol.
And besides, you can just stand in between his legs and he can't hit you with anything, giving you plenty of time to kill his annoying little minions.
