Were you hitting corpses?
I have 3 spare weapons, a maxed out Scim (Ordinary), another Old Whip (Love the damage), and a Longsword out of my own preference.
Aside from me also having spells/miracles/bows to fight with, this game forces you to have alternate means of fighting, wether it's in style or with more weapons lol.
Not to mention that all the weaker weapons seems to get the crappiest durability. I remember on PS3 when I was dual wielding claws, most of the time they both broke, or were extremely close to breaking.
Weaker weapons really need more durability. You need more hits to kill each enemy, which obviously drain more durability. I can't remember claws' durability though. It was either 30 or 40.
Rapier comes with 45. Straight swords seems to have somewhat decent 70 (or was it 60?) durability. But why should I be forced to use high durability, not-so-fun to use weapons? All the good stuff seems to have crappy durability. Argh! :D
I'm not gonna waste a ring slot and start wearing brass knuckle ring if the only durability issues I have is with few weapons. My armor, rings or shields have never managed to break, or be even close to breaking (not even with 3rd dragon ring, unless I accidentally step in acid), so I have no reason to wear it.
Oh yeah, I also noticed that if you hit NPCs that are only visible to host (for example, Gavlan in No man's wharf) that drains durability too. A LOT.
I don't think so, if I remember right my Sun Sword never improoved from it's starting 60 durability. It's not VERY durable, but I can get through an area and a boss.
