Durability is absurd!
I got the Malformed Skull which has 20 durability but i got the Brass knuckle ring +2 and this weapon is breaking after 4 mob kills wtf is the point of that.

To make you switch weapons more often.
Were you hitting corpses?

When you upgrade weapons their durability also raises. You can also find a hidden ring not far into the game which boosts durability of all items while worn.

i was killing the 4 bowmen skelly near sinners rise lift cuz thats where u farm the weapon. I don't see how killing 4 mobs is a way to force you to switch weapons.

there's a glitch that makes it so that hitting corpses at all wrecks your durability. maybe you were accidentally clipping the dead ones while you were fighting?

this weapon sucks , only with 20 durability =\

Some weapons have a faster degrade rate than others. Specifically the Old Whip as an example. Within 10-15 hits, especially less on armoured enemies, it'll be at risk.

I have 3 spare weapons, a maxed out Scim (Ordinary), another Old Whip (Love the damage), and a Longsword out of my own preference.

Aside from me also having spells/miracles/bows to fight with, this game forces you to have alternate means of fighting, wether it's in style or with more weapons lol.

Use it as a last resort/boss weapon. Also, maybe keep a dagger for crits and another weapon for general use.

Hitting dead bodies reduces durability by a large amount. Becareful when attacking around dead bodies.

Yeah, I really don't like the durability in this game. Yes, it was definitely WAY too high in Demon's Souls, and Dark Souls, but here it's just too low. I started Co-op with my brother yesterday, and when we were in No Man's Wharf, the two rapier I used (both +3 or +4) just barely survived down there.

Not to mention that all the weaker weapons seems to get the crappiest durability. I remember on PS3 when I was dual wielding claws, most of the time they both broke, or were extremely close to breaking.

Weaker weapons really need more durability. You need more hits to kill each enemy, which obviously drain more durability. I can't remember claws' durability though. It was either 30 or 40.

Rapier comes with 45. Straight swords seems to have somewhat decent 70 (or was it 60?) durability. But why should I be forced to use high durability, not-so-fun to use weapons? All the good stuff seems to have crappy durability. Argh! :D

I'm not gonna waste a ring slot and start wearing brass knuckle ring if the only durability issues I have is with few weapons. My armor, rings or shields have never managed to break, or be even close to breaking (not even with 3rd dragon ring, unless I accidentally step in acid), so I have no reason to wear it.

Oh yeah, I also noticed that if you hit NPCs that are only visible to host (for example, Gavlan in No man's wharf) that drains durability too. A LOT.

I don't think so, if I remember right my Sun Sword never improoved from it's starting 60 durability. It's not VERY durable, but I can get through an area and a boss.

So, you used a weapon with very low durability. And it broke easily. Huh.
OldManJason Apr 29, 2014 @ 11:14pm
you need 3 weapons to swap between enemy types if playing it with what works in mind. That thing is pretty shabby. Theres way better but I can understand where your coming from. Put it in off hand and look scary is all it is good for imo

As others have mentioned. Make sure you have a small arsenal of upgraded weapons in your inventory. Keep your favourite weapon for the boss fight.

almost everytime I join someone as a phathom I go through like 3 weapons or more in the run (long sword, bastard sword, etc.) the weapons are fricken junk lol

The whole disadvantage of low durability items is that they break easily. It's a game mechanic.
