My friend torrented Dark Souls 2, he now bought it, can he the save game from the torrented version?
My friend pre-ordered DSII, but due to the delay, he didn't get it on day one. He gave in and couldn't wait any longer, so he torrented it. Now he wants to know if he will get banned for using the save game he used previously.

no, your friend will not be banned. there's nothign illegal or against rules about a save game file. just play it and stop being a wuss.

He should be fine.
No idea, but if he's willing to try, the save location of Dark Souls 2 can be found in a place similar or even worse than hell... this unholy place has a pit with no bottom that when you look, you can sense your very soul draining... getting weak at each second you keep looking...

it is... the %appdata%!

Sorry I just hate when games put stuff in appdata.

i'm pretty sure the saves are bound to your steam account because someone tried to transfer a savegame and it wouldn't work. they're in %appdata%\dark souls ii\ for the legit version, for the torrented it depends, either in c:\program data\steam or in %appdata%\reloaded maybe

In dark souls 1, the saves were bound to your account because of GFWL. I'm not sure steam does that same thing, at least to original saves. Maybe it might not work with pirated saves like you mentioned.

should be fine, but i'm supposing it'd be offline bound, like in Dark souls 1?

In all likelihood, probably not. It doesn't take that much time to go through areas you've done in a souls game, luckily.

I hate it too. "Where's my save game? oh I know, I'll store it somewhere which doesnt natively show up in searches." But yeah, will try and post a reply, maybe someone will have the same problem/fear.

I love it when people refer to "my friend" when they did something not entirely legal. Downloading torrents (games), cheating and getting VAC banned and asking here for support.

However answer to your question, I don't think u need to worry about save games and non pirated Dark Souls is way better (online mode ftw)

Save files are saved in a different folder per "steam account"; therefore the torrented copy will be under a different "steam account". So with that in mind, it can't be moved over to the "main account". It shows as "could not load properly; will overwrite old save" in game when the game does it's save check thing. I wonder if there is a way to do so even if it's in permanent offline mode. Hrmm. :< Speaking of which, where IS permanent offline mode?!
