Oceanic region grouped in with Europe?
So I'm enjoying the game immensely, It's a massive step up for the souls series.
The only problem I've run into recently seems to be lag. after googling around for a while I'm reading that people are saying oceanic players (Au/NZ) are grouped in with the EUROPEAN region.

This to me makes no sense, Europe is literally located on the opposite side of the world.
I understand that I can turn on Cross-region play, and i do, when i want to co-op with friends in America.

but if I'm playing by myself and want to do some PvP there's no reliable way for me to pair with other oceanic players without having European players thrown into the mix, even grouping oceanic players under the USwest region would be so much better for ping between me and invaders.

Am i alone in this issue?
Do others agree with me?
The only thing i can hope for is that if enough players from Aus/NZ speak up and bring this issue to the attention of the devs.

EDIT: Heres some screenshots of what PvP is like on my end 95% of the time.

Also found this video, it's a pretty good representation of what its like to invade.

You're not alone, and I agree with you. As someone who lives in the EU, I don't enjoy playing with Au people any more than you enjoy playing with us. The lag can be incredible sometimes.

Every time I get invaded, the invaders are able to swing at me from across the room and damage me. I can be 3 rolls away from them and still get damaged. It's literally impossible to win.

It doesn't seem like your traditional lag, where they're teleporting around, but it definitely seems like their actions get priority over mine. I've raised my shield, watched them attack from across the room... and still hit me. It's as if I'm watching the fight as it was 1 second before.

It's pretty awful, and I figured this might be the problem. What a shame.

I can't play with my friends from the US :(

yes you can, in the options menu set online to unrestricted and have your friends do the same

Yeah, everyone is suggesting that Aussies and sheep shaggers play unrestricted.

Europe is literally the worst place to be paired up with.

Glad it's not just me that's upset by this decision, it seem to effect players in both regions negatively.

I'm urging people to keep this thread bumped so hopefully the devs take notice of what should be an easy fix.

Interesting and quite sucky. It would've been best if Australia/New Zealand where grouped only with each other and not anywhere that is several hundred miles across the across. I too greatly hate lag and live in Australia :/

So after Invading in huntsman's copse for a while the results are pretty disappointing, most of the time the host was rubber-banding around and hitting me from about 5 feet away. i had one guy stand still on my screen, and as soon as I start trying to combo with my twinblade, i watch every hit land on my screen at point blank range only to have him rubber-band through me as my whole health bar drops to zero and he just walks off. This is ridiculous.

IF THE DEVS READ THESE FORUMS PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF NAHR ALMAR GIVE US OUR OWN REGION.

This has effectively killed Online play for Oceanic players before it even began.

I doubt they'll see this, ever. See if there's any other way of contacting them. I've tweeted them already, but I don't imagine I'll get a reply.

i actually killed two people just by simply swinging my weapon through thin air standing still... i guess my lag > their lag xD

one note though if you connect a hit with the guy even if he rubber bands right after, his will hp will go down even if it takes a few seconds to update.

I sent an email to both au.support@bandainamcogames.com.au, and
customerserviceuk@bandainamcogames.eu
Since it seem to be Bamco who are running the servers.

I think this game "Cross-region "option is broken....I live in SEA and have never been played with SEA people. ..only found Us/Uk/Rus/australia......is it about my game is ROW version?

Dark Souls. The only PVP game where the person with the worse connection has the advantage.

Just turn it on or off!

(someone told me, and i couldnt have been happier)

That's not the issue, did you even read the first post?
I know about cross region, but turning it off isn't going to help that just opens up online play to access ALL REGIONS, Oceanic players DON'T HAVE A REGION we're grouped into the EUROPEAN region meaning it's basically off by default for us.

We have no way to be paired with players from ONLY the oceanic region since disabling cross region pairs us with people from Europe anyway.

From a finicial standpoint its probably not worth having a server in Australia for Oceania, as its a proven fact that oceania servers never generate enough traffic to justify a long term investment like a server.

Take SWTOR for example. Server dwindled over a year to the point of being the same 20 people every day, where as euros and americans where in the 100's.

So why would From Software and Namco really bother?

FYI the game only uses dedicated servers for matchmaking, the actual gameplay is P2P, hence the bad connection when it pairs players from Europe with players in AU/NZ
