Low FPS/Stuttering
Hey guys, I hope everyone is enjoying Dark Souls 2 on PC...I know I am, but I have been plauged by nasty stuttering and low fps. My system has handled all the games that I've thrown at it so far Tomb Raider, BF4, Crysis 3, Assassins Creed BF, but for some reason even on the lowest settings I am still having trouble running Dark Souls 2 smoothly, approximately 20fps at times or lower. I have downloaded new nvidia drivers twice and searched the forums for anyone having the same problem with no luck. My system in short is: GTX680SC, i950cpu and playing @ 1080p. Has anyone had a similar problem running Dark Souls 2 or have any suggestions on making it run smoother for me? Thanks in advance for any help.

Durante's Launch Day DS2 Downsampling Package: http://blog.metaclassofnil.com/?tag=gedosato This may help. Also check to make sure in your nvida settings that the game is actually using your graphics card. Have heard cases with people having that issue. Can confirm GTX660M works flawlessly

^ OP isn't using a mobile gpu.

Did you try a clean install when you installed the new drivers?

What kind of frame rate do you get when in windowed mode?

You could also try going to nvidia control panel and manage 3d settings. Add dark souls 2 profile (if it's not there already) and select power management mode and select maximum performance. See if that helps.

Having stuttering too.. the game starts just fine, but randomly starts to stutter out of nowhere..only fix I found so far is just restar the whole game (even the main start screen menue stutter) Which is super annoyin having to restart the entire game, even if starts fast but having to exit the game each time stuttering happends, is a REAL PAIN.
By the way, amd user here.
(so far gues we have to w8 for a patch)

Downsampling might be a confusing term. Durante's mod actually increases GFX quality and adds (alot) of GPU load. EV4L states that the game still runs fine EVEN on his mobile GPU.

Seriously a 680 and i7-950 .. there's something wrong here if that is struggling.

EDIT: Haya wich windows version?

I run the game on max settings, and everything in my computer is worse than yours. And I got 60FPS.
I don't think it's an issue with the game, but a technical matter with your computer.

I'm using a GTX 670, even with mods (which are now not allowed) such as sweetfx and forced AA through nivida inspector I was still getting a constant 50-60 fps, now because of VAC I've had to get rid of them and its constant 60 fps. Your graphics card out does mine by quite a margin, fresh instal, malware scan, do the basics. Check out those other games now and report back.

I don't recall ever saying it was a problem with the game...Thanks for your input?...

The game requires a minimum of 3.2 ghz processor if i remember right. Anything lower, and your system is going to struggle.

So my pentium 4 will play it fine then?

I7 950 is a 3.06ghz quad core, I can't see it being your issue. Just out of curiosity, have you turned hyperthreading off in the Bios? Hyperthreading can actually cause worse performance in some games so unless you do something that benefits from it (encoding, editing etc.) then you're best off turning it off.

Might be worth trying the same old tricks to see if they make a difference too, things like running with admin priveleges, compatibility mode etc.

Also, are you on Windows 8 or 8.1? If just 8, do the update to 8.1, there are lots of improvements that may give you a better experience in most games.

My friend used to get constant 60fps up until today, now we get constant stutters after a minute or two gameplay. Sys is I3, 12gb ram and Gforce 635m. We have no idea what might have caused the problem.

Edit: We uninstalled the graphics drivers and did a fresh install, seems to work fine now.

wow.. what a piece of crap... my i5 quad core is 2.9... god and this stupid lame mobo won't lemme oc it... (need to update bios) I can't believe I would be better with my OLD CORE 2 DUO 3.0 (boosted to 4.0) then this i5... still makes me bit mad, why this low graphics game requieres 3.2 processor? well m not a programmer (obviously) but dam gues ill try to update my bios and push my micro to 3.2.
@h.IV+[NukeJockey]
I will try to turn that hyperthreading thing off and see what happends as well~ (this won't affect my overall comp performance right?)

Thanks for the info btw!
