Claymore vs. Drangleic Sword?
A lot of people on forums tend to lean towards the claymore, with the Drangleic sword being rarely mentioned. But for a STR and DEX build, the Drangleic starts to outclass the Claymore quickly. The one handed movesets are identical. The 2 handed movesets are completely different. I mostly play one handed with a shield in the off hand.

The only disadvantage I see for the Drangelic sword is shorter range (if the length of the sword is any determination) and that you need Twinkling titanite to upgrade it. I have a Claymore +4 and a Drangleic +1, and the Drangleic already outdamages the claymore by about 20 damage (I'm at 27 STR and 24 DEX i think).

Any opinions on this?

hmm, I dunno though. I'm not far into the game so I don't know much about the new crafting system but if it's anything like the original you can only upgrade twinkling titanite weapons up to +5 whereas normal weapons can go up to +15 so in the short term the twinkling titanite weapons are good to go (and by early I mean it can last you the whole first playthrough) but if you keep going you're going to see your damage outclassed.

I'd go Claymore. I'm early in the game but I got both Drangleic Sword and Bastar sword, and Bastar Sword +3 does the same damage as Drangleic sword, but Drangleic doesn't use normal Titanite to upgrade, making the upgrading slow and late game. Have yet to get to Claymore, but from what I've heard, its Claymore > Bastar Sword > Drangleic.

Get the claymore to +10 and infuse it with fire is what I'd do.

I played through the PS3 version with a STR build, using a +10 claymore. I really liked that weapon. Great moveset and good speed for its size. I'm also not a big fan of the two-handed moveset for the Drangleic sword. I like killing bosses while two-handing and the claymore does the job very nicely.

You mention STR/DEX so Drangleic sword might be worth it, I still don't like the 2H moveset though.

Like an idiot I've heard people raving about the claymore, looked online for info which area it's in, got all hyped up, just found it and left dissapointed.

It's tricky, Ithe 1-handed drangleic moveset actually uses bit less stamina, and I don't like the longer reach of claymore (I keep hitting stuff around me)
The 2-handed claymore moveset I definitely prefer, but the power thrust is too slow (and not fond of the animation)

Finally the drangleic sword just looks badass with a shield, not a fan of the claymore

Joke's on me, movesets and weapon preference is a personal thing.
Should just enjoy this amazing game and descover things myself

Yeah, I've been using the claymore since demon's souls, so I actually went REALLY out of my way to try and get the clymore early in DS2. It's moveset isn't excatly unique, I've found better alternatives by now.
