White Sign Soapstone Greyed out... Halp?

Soooo basically i wanted to leave my summon sign before boss room but i can't use this item (can't even use smaller one)... i have been playing 10 hours today, i was trying that item every hour but can't use it at all... Can't use cracked red eye orb neither... i don't know what's wrong... people can invade me (got killed twice today), can read others messages on ground, i can see ghost of other players in that areas but i can't use online-play items... any ideas why? (And one thing, i deleted my previous character, on that character i tried to use small white sign stone and it was working just fine, someone summoned me... but since then [since new character] it doesn't work at all... Is it problem at my end or? Any help is appretiated... thx :)

What area are you in? It's happened to me in Luna's Belfry and it is damn annoying and I don't know why it happens either.

Simply everywhere... tried to leave it before last giant, Pursuer, Dragonrider, Old Dragonslayer, Flexible sentry, Ruin sentinels.... it just doesn't work... no matter where i am

It means one of two things:
1) You are in offline mode.
2) You are being invaded!

If you are in human form, don't expect to put down summon signs in Belfry areas. You will be invaded pretty much as soon as you step into the area.

Im in online mode since i see message of other players, their ghosts & being invaded
Sure, i'm being invaded for whole 10 hours i was playing.... not really, got invaded twice in 10 hours... i tried using White Sign Soapstone atleast 50 times... it's just gray when i have it as Use item... when i try it in inventory "Use" option is Greyed out....

Yeah, that covenant is screwed up. Even if you join it, you enter the Belfry proper and you're fair game to everyone and the enemies there will still attack you.

doesn't matter... soapstone wasnt working even when i didnt have covenant

You might not be on the server though sometimes when steam goes down it kicks you out the server. Or maybe your softbanned? Also he didnt mean the Bell covenant he meant the champion covenant stone in Majlula.

Guys this topic is old as f***, i had this problem when i was playing for the first time (day after it was released) ... i had this problem for one simple reason: I was in company of champions covenant (i knew that i won't be able to summon others but i didn't know that others can't summon me either)

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥... 2 years later and im reading this for DS3... I look back at my game, and I have an invader bowing before me... it was a good duel.

you just revived super old thread, im gonna say it one last time, it will be grayed out (which means you are unable to use it), because you joined the covenant (of champions i believe it is called) which you can join on that stone tablet in majula, if you abandon that covenant (or join other covenant), the soapstone will be usable again.
If you are not in this covenant, there may be someone who is about to invade you, or you have someone summoned in your world already.
It may also be grayed out because you are in offline mode.

To make it simpler, here are the reasons why it is grayed out:
1. You are in offline mode.
2. You are in covenant of champions.
3. Someone is invading you.
4. You have someone summoned to your world.

I cant use the soapstone or cracked eye orbs im online ive been invaded once I'm not a part of any covenant and i don't have anyone summoned to my world
