Best starter item?
Like DK and DS you get 'starter choices', I've looked at them and it seems like the life ring is the best choice. Or? I'm choosing a warrior.

~side question~ anyone know a decent warrior build online? I've looked and its all been meh so far.

Life Ring is my choice. You can still find it in game but since you have 4 ring slots now is a good starter choice.

You can get every single item you choose at the start somewhere in the game, and unlike the key in DS 1, none are as immediately beneficial. CHoose either the bonfire aesthetic or the petrified something. You can trade the petrified something to the crows at the start for an increased chance to get weapons and upgrade stones.

You can get a Life Ring really early in the game.

I'd just go with "Petrified Something" and just hope that the crow gives you something good.

I always take either the extra effigy or the healing wares.
You can find the ring of life very, very early in the game and they don't stack so it's kind of a waste in my opinion. You can get the same items with a smooth and silky stone as you can with a petrified something, albiet at a slightly lower frequency, so that's near useless as well. You rarely, rarely get invaded outside of NG+ so the seed is also a waste. The bonfire ascetic is the only one I'm undecided about as you can use it to reset enemy spanws and wooden chests if you're in a pinch for items.

I'd recommend either the "Petrified Something" (as Golden Truth said, you can trade it in) or the "Healing Wares". They provide a nice buffer in the early stages when your flasks are a bit more limited.

I havn't played the game yet but what I'm getting from the wikis is that Petrified Something is the best one since you can trade it for some good gear/items at start while everything else you can find in mass or its not that useful except in a few cases.

When i played on PS3 i chose petrified something since you can exchange it to a random item that helps you out later on. If you want some more health items there is an option for that.
For the Warrior build i found out the best is to just take your STR to 40-50 and use greatsword(insane knockback/stagger) and you can kill every enemy in the game easily.

This seems to be the most fun option. None of the items are things you won't pick up anyhow and short of speed runs I can't see the meta for each one meaning much. Just get the smooth and silky whatever and take it to the crows. You might get an infusion, twinkling, or whatever.

I would say either Petrified Something, or the Seed Of A Tree Of Giants if you want to make invaders swear. And lets face it, we all want to make invaders swear.

The only item you won't find quite early on is the Ascetic, but you're also unlikely to need/want it if it's your very first play thru:)

You can find 3 Smooth And Silky Stones in the very first area (before you chose your name even!)- you have a lower chance of recieving the better items, but the chance is still there- one of my chars had a Demon's Great Hammer he couldn't use for a very long time:)

If you really want to take the seed as your starter item ill tell you now that you get a 10% chance to spawn 1 of the seeds each time you are invaded in a specific spot.

I chose ascetic on console because in the scope of things, these are very precious because if you want to respawn enemies to farm for an item/set you need bonfire ascetics.

Yeah but, I dunno, gambling in games can be really fun sometimes to me. It still makes me a bit excited to think I could get something awesome. At least, at first. :D
