Gamestop Pre-order product code doesn't work on steam?

I heard that there was pre-loading happening right now, but when I try and get the code from the gamestop app, it tells me that it's invalid. Should it work, or do I have to contact gamestop support for a new key?

Edit: It updated the keys, so if you have the same problems as I did, just update Gamestop app and you'll get a new key that works for Steam.

Edit 2:
1) Open Gamestop App and log into account that you bought it with.
2) Go to "my games" tab located on the top, and hover over Dark Souls 2 and then click "Product Code" A second window opens with the product key, click copy to copy it to clip-board.
3) Now with your code copied, you go to steam (Application, not website) and on the bottom left there should be a "Add game" button.
4) Click it and press "Activate a game on steam..." There, you follow instructions given, and then enter the key when prompted to.
5) Pre-load the game, and have fun.

Yeah i also activated my key, didnt get it from GameStop

Ask in the support section (on GameStop).
Ask if they key is a pre-order key or a regular key.
If its a regular key then wait for relese day.

Im having the same problem. The page for the game clearly said it's the Black Armor edition (aka pre order version) so even if the code isn't valid until release day you should still get the pre order gifts. If not contact Gamestop and raise hell about it, I know I will.

i pre ordered from amazon had no problem pre-loading my game but cant find the bonuses to download

I'm having the same issue. It would be great if there was info somewhere about this. I called Gamestop customer support and they said it's a Steam issue, and that they couldn't help me. I put in a support ticket but Valve takes literal days to respond to support tickets.

Well we still have until 6pm est until we have to enter panic mode. I just don't get why keys from every other retailer work and Gamestop ones don't. Just another reason to avoid Gamestop like the plague, if I didn't have a gift card from them I would have just bought a key from GMG for 20% off.

Try again getting your product code. Mine was changed on GameStop App automatically, and works.

Gamestop app, go to your products, get the product code from the app. Register the code in steam through the "Add a game..." option in the bottom left corner.
