At face value, yeah but look at when the torches are being lit up. It's casting dynamic shadows/lighting on characters/other characters and it looks pretty similar to TGS footage looking back. It's a shame they didn't know Drangeleic Castle with the thunder and the Mirror Knight but I'm sure it looks fantastic.
Edit: did not know about some sconces casting dynamic shadows - maybe already in the console versions i dont know - for reason read above
Not quite.
The textures are definatly higher res. Character and enemy armor looks much much better (the Pursuer looks WAY different than in console version as far as graphical fidelity). There is also SSAO, though its subtle.
The lighting isn't much different but everything else looks noticably better. Its a shame all they really showed off though was Forest of Fallen Giants. Forest of the Fallen Giants and Brightstone Cove Tslesdora are by far the worst looking areas in the game. Certain areas of forest doesn't look bad but its clear they had to cut back on quality there due to how bad the framerate was already in the PS3 version (my FPS in the Cardinal tower they show in the video was rather "eh" and the load time for that area was well over 30+ seconds..)

The geometry was downgraded and the lighting was toned down to be much less dramatic but I think it's unfair to base your first impressions on a couple of YouTube videos that hardly went into detail. Yeah, I'm sure the areas are the same geometry wise and for example, that hallway with the paintings and the torture devices, I wish that was still there but they changed it. Undoubtedly it will look better than on the console version and I wish it looked reveal video quality, but that hasn't happened (to my knowledge). However, getting upset over something like that is going to ruin your experience of one of the best, if not the best games to come out for the past generation of consoles (8 years?) so personally I'm avoiding the negativity even though there is some concern in my mind.
I'm glad the crazy lighting (darkness with the same lighting we have now) is gone, it made the game hell on characters that used two hands (shield+weapon/bow+arrow/shield+caster/2H melee). It was cool for the beta but personally I hated not being able to play the game properly without a torch meaning I played the game completely different to how I played the Kings Field/Demon's/Dark Souls games before and when I heard there was going to be another Dark Souls, I wanted more of the same with improvements. I didn't want to carry a torch throughout the entire game because I can't see anything.
We are stuck playing this game on old consoles or with PC software downgraded for compatibility. I am glad I pre-ordered and the game looks great, it is just a shame that publishers won't go for DirectX 11 because people don't want to upgrade their computers.
Did you play on consoles? Lighting and dynamic shadows are literally the same nothing improved at all. For textures, load times and fps you are right but otherwise no improvement.
Actually it's almost the same thing, plus 60 fps.
