Heavy armor not worth it
So topic pretty much. Armor doesn't work the same way it did in Dark Souls 1 at all. If you lose like 40% life if you get hit in your super heavy armor like Smelter demon armor you will lose only about 5%~ more with armor that is almost 4-5times weaker like the Falconer armor.

It is not worth it because you need to invest alot of points into vitality to not be over burdened.

Dodge/block are your best way to defend against enemies, and the best way to improve these techniques are adaptability and endurance.

Have fun getting two-shot by a random ♥♥♥ spider in +2 Smelter demon armor (:

Armor in this game is cosmetic only so treat it that way, just a heads up.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but heavier armor doesn't just offer more protection, it offers greater poise. Part of the advantage of those armors is the ability to walk through hits, not necessarily to nullify way more damage. Shields were always the best way to avoid damage in both the previous Souls games. More poise is the greater advantage. Sure, you may get hit, but you can probably stun lock the enemy if you are using a two handed weapon.

That said, I could be completely wrong. So far I am playing on the PS3 with a Faith/Dex build, so big armor is not an option for me.

Poise doesn't work the same way any more. You get guard broken from 1 hit whether you are wearing nothing or full Havels. Poise in DaS2 basically allows you to recover from the stunlock faster rather than avoid it.

Poise wasn't about being guard-broken or not but rather by your attacks not being interrupted while hit.

heavy armor gave more poise in ds1 so when you are using the greatswords and ect weapons like you should make your damage through foe's hit
and it give more resistances.

but that the different isn't so much is shocked me:C i thought it should reduce more damage

Songbird its not the armor that makes it not worth it. Never actually used heavy armor to get hit by 1% of my life. Never happened and never will, you generally take heavy armor for poise in dks1. Poise in DKS2 works in a different way, many people testing still how it really works but until now no one knows the whole mechanic. As the pisz guy said above what is known right now or the most common word going around is that poise makes you recover faster from stunlocks/combo or whatever, but is it worth it? we'll see. So far many people dont think it is though.

I cannot agree at all. I have been using full Havel's for a while now and I don't miss dodging at all. In Dark Souls 1 I always had less than 25% of the maximum equipment load but in Dark Souls 2 heavy armor seems better to me. :monsoon: Of course PvP is very hard with heavy armor but I am more of a PvE player.

Better than making a new thread about it. Back then Poise wasn't a thing back then until they struck it up a notch in a later patch however.

Well now that it is necroed let me tell you what I did. I ended up ditching armor went full faith and lightning bolt my way through the remainder of the game and DLCs. To this day I have no idea about any boss mechanics or attack patterns past the second half of the game and its DLCs.

And as you all know, some patches later faith lightning got nerfed into the ground aswell.
