need to choose armour
I am late in the game so I can no longer keep playing knowing that better armour will come allong soon

So now i need to invest some titanite in some which i will use for the rest of the game

I need to choose a set (does not have to be all from the same named set) which is well balanced
I need reasonable physical defence with some good all round magic defence and of course light weight at arround 25 VIT

any suggetions

choose whichever you like and fits your vitality. They are all the same stats wise more or less
25 vitality is quite a lot if you are planning to use a light armor, I guess. are you going to use heavy weapons and shields? well... better to just check the wiki and pick the most bawse looking set.

if you just want to pick the "best" armor and be hated later, you can use the havel set. don't forget the derp smelter helmet. it's a heavy armor, of course, but it offers quite a lot of defense.

anyway... not sure. i usually don't pay too much attention at the stats of the armors.

Just go Faraam and be a poster boy.
Me? I have a few sets of fully upgraded armor: Lliwellyn, Alva, Dark, Faraam, Heide, Throne Watcher, Throne Defender, Mad Warrior, Vengarl, (lol) Havel. Also a Black Dragon set.
Actualy... Vengarl's set have VERY good stats for its weight. But it might be a little to heavy for 25 Vit.

I wear llewellyn cause it's super light. Alva armor is also light and gives great defense. Drangeleic armor is also good.

You want reasonable physical defense with good elemental resistance and only use normal titanite? Lucatiel set. Bad thing is, no poise, so you always get stunned in PvE.

Alva is light and offer good physical defense.

Faraam is medium and offer good physical defense.

If you can get down to under 25% equipment load, you can roll further and regenerate Stamina at insane speed.

I've beaten the game naked more times than I can count. Invaders included. Armor is optional. Even against havel helixodons.

Fashion Souls is the best way to play. I would suggest the Alva Set, it's light and does decent protection.

I've made a matlab script that gives the best combination of your prefered attributes given a certain weight. The best set (fully upgraded) weighing 20 or less is, Back witch robe, blood stained skirt, smelter demon gauntlets and white hollow mage hood. If you leave durability, poison, bleed and curse res , its returns black witch robe, hexers boots, looking glass gauntlets and white hollow mage hood

BTW thats not considering scaling, I cant really find how much the scaling factor contributes to phys def.
Harukage Jun 23, 2014 @ 2:47am
A lot. Heavels armor on a character with a proper Phys Defense stat and without it have a differense of 400-500 armor points. Depends on an armor piece scaling.

Ive been trying to figure out how much it is exactly, but right now i approximate it by adding 10% per scaling level, or none if you dont want a phys build. Havels pieces show up a lot in heavy builds so this seems to work.

Vengarl, because I like the look of it.
Harukage Jun 23, 2014 @ 11:53am
Vengarl is good. It is popular in NG when most players dont have enough stats to use it effectively. But it is not very common further on. Yet it is a very good armor. And dat looks...

Vengarl is seriously overused though. Like one in three players use the damn thing...
