Just press shift+tab and minimize the game and disconnect from your wifi. Might be an easier way but that works.

That is indeed how it works.

True, I didn't even consider that because I never play in offline mode unless my wifi messes up (which it does routinely thanks to Cincinnati Bell).

To go offline, disconnect your internet connection.

Steam drop down menu top right----Go offline.
Then start Dark Souls 2

Unplug your internet from your PC, unless you are using wifi then just shut it off. Plug it back in/turn it back on when you get to load character. This makes Steam online while the Dark Souls 2 server is offline.

Someone got invaded one too many times...

Alternatively just use a software firewall to block the game/Steam. Then you don't need to go completely offline.

Network and Sharing Center>Disable Local Network

You can even enable to once Dark Souls II goes into offline mode (game doesn't automatically put you online when the connection is established again; you have to exit to menu first).

Cut your internet cable or trash your router =P

Simply block the game executable in your firewall rules. This way only the game goes offline but nothing else.
These are the best replies if you wanna play offline but still get achievements.

I'm 2 years late but since this was one of the first threads I found when looking for an answer,
Yes. Yes you can.

However there's an extremely easy way.

Go to your firewall,

Advanced settings,

Outbound rules,

Next,

Select the .exe to Dark Souls II,

and confirm that you are blocking this path in your new firewall rule.

The game will be 100% forced to start in offline mode as long as the Outbound rule exists.

Invades would be entertaining. But in this game is magic brutally OP and kids here only spam firestorms and dark orbs in PvP, that´s like 2/3 of all fights. Usually when someone invade me and is going to cast something, I´m going to jump from the first cliff in the area. Just not interested, thanks.
