ELI5: How exactly do I install and use ENB?
I must apologize preemptively for my noobishness when it comes to ENB and other similar graphical type mods.

Only time I have successfully figured it out was for Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director's Cut, and that was quite a while ago.

Do I just download this: http://enbdev.com/mod_darksouls2_v0257.htm ? Or is there a newer version?

And do I put the "WrapperVersion" and "InjectorVersion" folders directly into /common/Dark Souls II/ ? Or do I put them in /common/Dark Souls II/Game ?

Now, when I want to use someone's custom settings do I just copy the files from the download into the same place as I put the main ENB files and click "Copy and replace" for each object?

I have the ENB I pasted a link for (I think it is right one) downloaded ready to place. I just downloaded Kalicola's ENB because I heard so many good things. There are so many files :O

Sorry again, and thank you.

Copypasta Injector version to /Game folder.

Yes, to use other custom setting copy paste them over the base. Need to verify that the setting you use can work with the version of base ENB (i.e. same version or not that far away). If you edit enbseries.ini you can copy pasta old version onto new version setting, pretty easy to use.

Also reduce gamma curve in the ini if you find the ENB too dark. I basically eyeballing my eyes out in Huntsman forest because I can't even see orange butterfly. Tweak DoF as well, not good to snipe stuff when everything too blurry past certain distance. Copy pasta over a palette that is more to your liking.

What about WrapperVersion? Does that go in the same place?

I did what you said and it does not appear to be working.

Also, do I copy the "WrapperVersion" and "InjectorVersion" folders themselves into the Game folder? Or the contents of those folders?

open the folder which says wrapper version and copy just the d3d9.dll file into your dark souls game folder - the one with the darksouls2.exe file.

Then download whatever ENB preset you want to use and copy the contents of the .rar folder into the same game folder.

Run the game, if the ENB is working then you'll get some text telling you the version number etc in the top left of the screen.

I have clear instructions on my page which can be used to install any enb. Kalicola's is a great preset, so is confidence mans.

Thank you very much. Just about every guide or instructions I have found are assuming you already know how to use ENB.

Your instructions worked very well!

Just trying to wrap my head around this so I don't need help for the next game I use ENB with. Am I only copying the one file from the ENB .rar because the presets already contain the others?

Also, I went from constant and smooth 60 fps to 30-40 fps, sometimes dipping to ~10 fps for a second or two... is this much performance losses expected with every ENB preset? This is A LOT. I remember it only making me lose about 10-15 fps in Deus Ex.

Yes, You only copy the .dll file from the enbdev.com page because that is just the code without any lighting effects turned on or adjusted. The presets on the nexus contain the settings for the game.

Your performance depends on how many effects are being used, if the effects are using maximum settings etc. I get 60fps 90% of the time on a single gtx670 and never dip under 60 with SLI. Others have told me that they hit 60fps with a gtx 750.
Someone on my page told me he hits 40-50fps with a 7950.

There are ways to raise your framerate, but they're at the expense of image quality.. Turning off AO should get you 8-10 fps, with Dof removed you should get a few more back depending on whose preset and DoF code you use.
