The Dragon Tooth
Weapon of good ol' Havel the Rock from DS1. I sometimes use it just to do a Havel the Rock cosplay once in a while. However, I just noticed that this thing breaks really, REAAALLY easily. Used the R2 attack a few times on solid enemies like the Ironclad Soldiers, or the Mastadon Knights and you see the blinking red text saying 'Raw Dragon Tooth + 5 at Risk'.

Wait a minute, wasn't the whole emphasis of the Dragon Tooth being the unbreakable weapon in DS1?

Created from an everlasting dragon tooth.
Legendary great hammer of Havel the Rock.

The dragon tooth will never break as it is
harder than stone, and it grants its wielder
resistance to magic and flame.

-Item Description of the Dragon Tooth in DS1

If I remember correctly, the durability was also something like 9999 in DS1, so it was almost impossible to break the thing to begin with. In DS2, the thing only has a durability of 70, and it still seems to break more easily compared to the other Great Hammers like the Drakekeeper Great Hammer.

So, does this mean From Software just forgot about the characteristics of the Dragon Tooth? I don't think so, because the thing still has the unique Magic and Fire resistence from the previous game. Is it because it is a mere replica made from a fake dragon's tooth which were created by Lord Aldia, unlike from DS1 where Havel used a real Ancient Dragon's tooth? However it is a bit odd that a dragon, even a fake one to stash one of his cousin's tooth in his nest. I just think the Dragon Tooth found in the nest is from one of the past Havel's knights.

So why is this thing so fragile? Any ideas or thoughts? Is it a mistake from From? I just feel awkward when I have to take out a spare Dragon Tooth when I'm running around Sun Broing while cosplaying Havel.

it may in reality be a tooth of a drake, which is a dragon, but not a demigod dragon, thus why it's not this immortal weapon as it once was, you do find it next to a drake.

P1: weapon loses a large amount of durability while it stays inside/contacts a dead body.
P2: the durability loss is calculated based on number of frames the weapon stays in.
P3: Dragon Tooth stays in a dead body for a significantly long time.
Q: Dragon Tooth + 5 at Risk.

this isn't about gameplay mechanics, this is about the unbreakable dragon tooth being breakable.

Yeah, I suppose thats the most logical explanation. I'm just kinda sad how the most durable weapon that was wielded by a man who wore the most durable armor, now breaks like a toothpick.
