Do I have to kill the huge dragon in Dragon Shrine?
He's pretty adorable and stuff, I'd rather not kill him. Is there a way to simply not? He already gave me an item just for talking to him, so he seems pretty nice.

nope, dont gotta kill 'em.
You do not have to kill him. He drops a Giants' Soul, which makes the fight with Vendrick a bit easier, but it is not necessary.

I got one of those, how many do I need to make him not insta kill me? I'm not use to fighting enemies that can turn on a dime like he can. He is my forth total death in my first playthrough, because I didn't expect him to snap towards me in an instant. It looked really unnatural though, I think it might have been a glitch.
The Guy is cool, no need to kill him, cursed one... Later on in the game you need Giant souls to beat the foolish king, for every giant soul you deal more dmg to the king, its optional to kill the big fat dragon, its the hardest bossfight in the game btw

Nah he has only 2 attacks and he broadcasts them insanely loud. Only reason I died was when I usedall my stamina and my guy woulda run unless I double pressed my B or sometimes tripply pressed.

But for real he like lifts up his face and screeches when hes gonna do flame thrower forward on the ground. If hes gonna do is super flamebomb the entire arena thing then he starts by attempting what looks like a jump then his wings start to move up and down. He also targets you on that one so its best to try to keep the fight in the middle of the area because if you are already at an edge then GG for you, either jump or get roasted.

Vendrick has 32x stats with 0 souls, and they halve with each soul up to 5 times, so if you get 3 more souls, Vendrick will only have 2x stats. The souls are located in the three giant memories, in the room under the Black Gulch and Ancient Dragon holds the last one.

Ancient Dragon is a completely pointless boss fight, and attacking him even gives you sin. Imo it is even intended not to fight him, and doing it anyways rewards you with some interesting lore.

Actually that just applies to his defense. His strength will be the same regardless of how many Giant Souls you have.
You don't have to, but you should do it nonetheless. It's a dragon! This is more than enough reason to end his life. Then devour his soul and unlock a shout. Oh well, wrong game lol, but still, I think it's worth killing him if you want to kill vendrik later.

But the Ancient Dragon isnt even a real dragon, so you wouldnt get a dragon soul absorbed :c

But you only learn that by killing him - although some item descriptions hint towards something being shady about him - so that's the main reason to slay it.

DS2 does kind of encourage the biologist approach to its lore - kill things to learn more about them.
Then kill them some more to be certain.

Don't kill him. Approach him, stand under his head and look up and see him smile at you.
He's so cute!
