While it looks nice on the paper, physical defense doesn't seem to make as much of a difference as I first thought. Use the ring slot for something more worthwhile.

Physical defense is barely noticeable until you have over 1k (I'm looking at you, Smelters and Havels), which is then something that is noticeable and will save your life.

Otherwise, use that ring on on something like Ring of Giants +2 if you're focusing on melee, as the extra poise will certainly help with trading blows.
