Defender greatsword or shield?
Im on ng+ and I have the another defender soul. I already have one lightning defender gs, but I also have the stats to powerstance if I were to dual wield two defender gs's.
Currently I'm using the tower shield as my main shield, but defender shield has just as good stats with less weight.
which one should I go with.

I would get the shield. It is not a greatshield so it can be used to parry or strike. It blocks more magic, lightning and dark damage compared to the tower shield but about 15% less against fire and poison/ bleed are both 5% lower. 10 less stability but weighs 8 less. When striking it does physcal and magic damage. It has the same scaling for strength as the tower shield but also scales with a D in Dex and a C in Magic(Int).

The Defender shield is about the same as King shield and Drakekeeper Shield

Make sure to get one of those, at least.

The Greatsword is amazing for a lightning damage build
Defender shield isn't the same as King/Drakekeeper, it has a lot more stability.

And it has significantly less fire, dark, and lightning resist than Drakekeeper, Kings has much better fire resist, and both Kings/Drakekeeper have much better poison resist (they have higher bleed/curse/petrify resist too, but who cares about those)

Long story short, they're all very close in stats, either one will suit you just fine unless youre building for a specific playstyle or look
An extra 5 points in stability is a big leap from the other shields.

Stability really isn't a worthwhile stat to take note of in this game IMO. In NG+, the stamina damage that enemies do to you is really significant to the point in which you won't notice the stability saving your life/stamina or whatever.
But if you block a few hits with a 68 stability Defender's Shield, and hit 2% stamina from a block but haven't gotten guard broken, and manage to get out of harms way, you'll know it's the stability that saved your arse.

I'm all for fashion souls, but Defender's Shield's stability kinda sets it apart from other shields, at least in my eyes.

Greatsword, simply one of the BEST faith weapons in the game, shield stability means little especially in PvP where you DO NOT want to turtle or hold your shield up or get guard breaked.

Greatsword if for faith build, you need at least 15 to use it and
