So I hit level 150, what do?
To be more specific on the situation, I am level 150 and close to finishing all the optional content. Already finished things like ancient dragon, king vendrick, dark pilgrims, sunbros etc. Anyway my friend told me to stop at 150 for soul level for "honor" in duels or w/e because everyone else does supposedly. He said it was it in darksouls 1 etc ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and so If I level above 150 will it stop me from doing coop and how will this effect pvp because I do want to do those.

Also any news if they will take out soul memory and go back to the old ways? Asking cuz I have 250k souls stored up and not sure what to do now after spending money on all these spells and such.

You can stop if you want. Soul Memory makes it so that it is useless to stop though, since you will be bracketed with people with higher soul memory that have NOT stopped levelling.

If you want to arbitrarily self-limit, it is fine to do so, but there is no practical reason to stop. Again, stop if you want to.

You can stop if you want to keep your character interesting with weaknesses and such, or you could just make him into a boring tank. Your choice.

There's no honor in PvP. Every single guy (with an extremely rare expection) will use something tryhardy or exploit - batstaff poison, mscimitar, roll parry, santiers, resonant ♥♥♥♥, havelyn, invis weapon, etc.

Pretty much this.

I'm no expert by any means, but I'm fairly sure that most people don't even consider stopping at SL150. So yeah, holding yourself back for "honor's" sake is an extremely bad idea in terms of PvP.

I'm already 350 in one of my characters and I can still easily loose in pvp just like a 150.
The game leveling have soft and hard caps so is not like you get invincible..

I think you should level up the amount you think is ok for you.. Just don't use the op stuff that is unbalanced like avelyns/scantier/m.scimitar/dual halberds.

People who think everyone is a tank after lvl 150 don't really play pvp.
A lvl 150 can take like 1~2 hits on duels.
A lvl 350 can take like 2~3 hits so is not like you get that huge hp when going pass 150..

In all SM tiers you will run into dudes that are abusing the game mechanics so there is no point in staying stuck into as SM range or SL.
Good players stop at 150. Noobs go beyond.
But if you don't go above 150, you will eventually get invaded by SL +800 players.

Actually, according to the level charts, 150 is the most used level (200+ is higher because it counts ALL of the levels above 200)

I stuck to 150, as it's fair and doesnt turn you into a boring tank :P

As someone who dies in 2 hits, fighting people who die in 10 hits is not fun. I've played enough PvP to know the difference :v

for honor - lol - there is absolutely no need to stop at 150, only do that when you plan on doing fightclubs with soulmemory around 5 to 8 mil. Staying at 150 is just stupid.

I find it more stupid being a boring high levelled character that can just use everything with no drawbacks. Where's the risk and fun of that?

Purists always stay at 150 and them come complaint about pvp...
Unless a guy is using full Havel/smelter helmet you don't hit him like 10 times..

Most of my Pvp fights are fast paced..Strong magic or buffed weapons..
The tools can be op but the char is never invincible..

I'm not a tank and don't even use a strong shield..
My shield only blocks dark for GRS..

Unless I'm smart I can go down very fast...

Your friend is full of poo-poo.
A small subset of players in Dark Souls 1 decided that their way of playing was the only "honourable" one and everyone not adherring to their rules are tryhards, scrubs and/or noobs. These players keep trying to force every body to play their way in Dark Souls 2. They can be safely ignored.

Its interesting how most people on the steam discussion hate the 150, yet most people on the reddit love it.

Just shows how different both communities are.
Cooperal May 26, 2014 @ 6:03am
Do you plan to compete in community-organised events that enforce a level rule?
Yes: Stop levelling.
No: Keep levelling.

As long as the game is choosing you match-ups based off a combination of your soul-memory and playthrough, their is absolutely no downside to continue levelling. You won't see strangers appreciating your unseen, self-imposed honour measures. Diminishing returns on stats will further only make it more difficult for them to tell the difference.
