How the hell to do parry?
Im no new guy to Souls games, but still suck in PvP after countless hours in both DkS and DeS plus almost 100 hours in DkS2, and landing a parry in DkS2 is just byond me in this game. Been trying to parry in both PvE and PvP only to eat more than enough on my daily iron intake. Granted I am not someone that is good at PvP but I was atleast able to get a pitty parry once in a while in the past 2 games.

PvE you just have to time things right so that an attack hits you while at the right moment in the animation. What weapon or shield you use depends on when the attack needs to land in the animation. Im bad at it but it is easy enough to learn. Seems to me like the sound is the parry frames.

But in PvP. When the hell am I suppose to parry? Do I need to parry an attack on his screen? On my screen? Somewhere in the middle? Everyting I try ends up with me never getting the timing right. I either do it to soon or after taking the hit and get stuck in the animation eating more iron. When the ♥♥♥♥ is the window for a parry?

There's no wonder why everyone uses the monastery scimitar. Im failing at every moment using shields, shotels, and the manikin saber.

I found a friend to practice parrying, and it depends on too many factors, lag, weapon, shield, etc... when I was able to parry his attack, it was just like in DkS1, when the attack animation started, I pushed L2, and I got to hear the "parry drum". But I just couldnt parry his R1's, or the dashing katana.

Watched just the first video so far. From him explaining things and me seeing it happen. You gotta parry on the other guys screen or just after he starts an attack on his side. For running, rolling, and a few other slow attacks you have the chance to see something coming as they all tend to have a big wind up or need another animation to play first. Giving you time to see something coming.

Everything else you need to be VERY good at knowing when someone is attacking before they do it as once you see an animation, it is to late, damage done. Or go for a parry in mid combo. Both are not good ideas in my opinion. Shield tanking is bait for a guard break and stun locks hurt.

Add that some slower weapons being near immune to parry if 2 handed and trying to parry kinda bones you unless you can bait. Nevermind lag and the desync that is phantom range.
If you want to parry in pvp, your ping must be very low 30-50 (I guess)

If your internet connection is not good, it will be almost impossible to do so

Its not too hard to pull off a parry once you practice it a bit. I used the royals soliders at the bastille to practice with at first; then started using the dragon knights at the aeirie. I then took it into pvp. Progress slowly; makes things easier.

If you whant good practice go to ironkeep and parry the Alonne Knights for 2 reasons 1,at 60fps thay are speeded up and are more like PvP speed and 2, all tryhards have katana's.

What buttons do you use on the gamepad (360) to parry?

Not exactly true
Unless the opponent is skipping frames in pvp, parrying is pretty consistant. Games like these are pretty forgiving unlike fps games, you wont see people skipping frames unless the either of you are above 100ms.

In PvE, just takes a little practice. Pick attacks to parry and it should be fine.

I see someone posted Juutas tutorial. That should cover the how tos of parrying

The easiest way to learn parry is to "set up parry". This is the easiest to do in both PvE and PvP. Block the 1st hit and then parry the second. Just like this:

The following video as another technique that people use in pvp, I myself use it quite a bit

Left trigger when using something that can parry. Shield, parry dagger, curved sword, or when 2 handing bigger weapons. Also take notice of what can and CAN"T be hit with a parry.

R1, R2 are right bumper and tigger. Copy about everything for left hand use.

Im so damn happy that my most used weapon, the Arced Sword, is amoung the weapons that can be near immune to parry. I just can't find a good reason outside of speed to use soemthing else and I looked. Hard.

Weight is good (18), damage is nice (just over 500 infused), moveset isn't that bad (not a fan of the 2handed R1), is an curved greatsword (very parry safe if used right), and it looks rather nice. The only drawback I got on it is speed. I want to try other weapons, but it is just so damn good that I can't stop using it.

well you could just use the marakumo, same moveset, less weight, more damage ?!

nah, using parry dagger? what kind of casual are you.
I try gitgud with shields, it's very very very painfual btw, since parry with shield much harder than any dagger / scimi.
I can parry great swords, katanas, santie, but timing must be perfect. Plus i don't "execute" people with parry killing animation, so i'm looking like insane turtle who fishing parry like mad and not benefits from it xD
Do not watch video's they usless, since you won't get fight like this in pvp, to gitgud with parry go pvp and die like 500 times.
Also, pve parry are stupid you can parry anything like realy anything i did parry pigs in majuula, rats, almost all bosses e.t.c xD

Oh, and probable one benefits what i have from this stupid parry gitgud, other people can't parry me any more

I'll have to see if it has more damage or not. +10 could give more base stats than a +5 but scaling could toss that in a loop. But Im starting to get sick of that moveset. Iv been using that weapon for a LONG LONG time now. At least 2/3 of my total playtime since the moment I unlocked boss weapons.

And I want to use other things. But for some reason or another I keep going back to it. Id love to use things like Manikin Claws, Meat Cleaver, or something that has a nice look to it. But all of them end up weak or just no good from low damage, easy to break (PvE), short reach, or a number of things together. Plus if you don't focus on buffs everything will 4 shot you while you'll need around double that.

The more I PvP the more unbalanced I see the game.
