How exactly does Magic weapon work..?
Im asking this because I have no idea what it scales with and how it adds damage..
Do you get a stronger buff with higher Intellect? Is the buff stronger when using a stronger staff?

So if a guy with Level 8 intellect and a weak staff uses it on his weapon does he get the same bonus as someone with 40 intellect and a fully uprgraded staff?

Adds 50 magic Attack Rating to a weapon, and an additional 15% of the magic Attack Rating naturally on the weapon.

So lets say i have a +6 scimitar with 200 physical damage and no magic damage...
It will give me 50 magic damage and 15% of what?
does it even have to do with how high my INT is ?

200 physical scimi + magic weapon = 200 phys / 50 magic
150 phys / 100 magic scimi + magic weapon = 150 phys / 150 + 15 (buff) magic

oh so the buff works best with weapons that already have magic damage on them

yes. Much, much better.

Weapons scale with INT only if a) they aready have a scaling with it b) you add the scaling via infusion with the Magic Stone

ah ok..i originally thought i could have a dex/int build and have a weapon scale off my Dex with like say an A rating and then apply magic weapon to it to get extra damage from my INT stats but i guess that doesnt work...
time to rebuild my character..i should have just gone either fully INT and use magic weapons..or gone fully Dex to benefit off dex scaling weapons

You can still infuse your weapon with Faintstone for magic damage and apply magic weapon ( or crystal magic weapon, gives you 50 flat +30% of the Magic Bonus)
I did it for my Dex / Int build with mirrah greatsword (175 phys / 175 magic at +10, with D/B scaling for STR / DEX) for NG+, carried me through really smooth

Ok i might actually do that, since i have 35 dex and 23 INT ... i could even it out and use that weapon as well as some of the spells i can use by leveling my int

what are your int and Dex stats at currently?
Maou May 25, 2014 @ 11:36am
Since I was using my spells most of the time (bought 99x Amber Herbs before starting NG+) i went with 25 DEX / 50 INT. If you want to primarily go melee 35-40 DEX should do the job. You can also use Simpletons Spice on weapon buffs ( Magic Weapon / Great Magic Weapon / Crystal Magic Weapon) to lover the INT requirements, since these Spells dont scale with INT, to use them earlier without any downsides

It's only worth casting and taking up a spell slot for weapons infused with the matching elemental part.

Reasonant weapon - dark infused
Magic weapon - magic infused
Flame weapon - flame infused

You get the idea.
