Let's talk about axes
Hi everybody! I'm a big fan of the massive muscular berserker guy who wrecks people with axes, so I was trying to raise an axe power wielding character.

Problem is, up to now I found axes to be quite lackluster. They are slowish, have very limited range, swing arc is good on some axes but bad on others, like bandit's axe has a good swing but dragonslayer doesn't. The sad part is, they don't compensate for their flaws with damage, I'm boosting strength but it doesn't help, the damage is not worth the weapon shortcomings.

Then I tried greataxes, I went for Black Knight Greataxe. The weapon is very hard to use, has the same range limitations of an halberd but is much harder to actually hit the sweet spot. Single hit damage is good, but in the same time I land a hit with this weapon I could land two with any straight sword, dealing more damage and for less stamina.

So what are your thoughts about axes? Are they viable? Is there any good axe/greataxe I'm missing?

axe's are amazing weapon.
My favorite PVE - gyrm axe, it's pretty much one hit kill in powerstance. For pvp i try dragonslayer's axe, foll in love with this weapon, simple amazing, good move set and perfect for r1 great sword spammers. Plus it's look's very nordic what make's it's perfect weapon for str life, will pick second and powerstance em.

Try the Lion Greataxe out it swings faster than the gyrm axe and less stats to use it.(Dropped by the Lion Clan Warriors in the ruins area of the Shaded Forest.)

I just farmed, upgraded and tried the Lion Greataxe: my old Mastodon Halberd does more damage, is faster, has better reach and has a better moveset. Also tried the Drakekeeper Greataxe, same thing. That's what I mean when I say axes do not compensate with enough damage for their shortcomings, if there is a slow, short range and hard to use weapon it should deal massive damage, which is not the case.

If you are 2 handing a great axe its unparryable with its R1/R2 and jumping attacks.
