Edit: Giant Lord Soul doesn't count.
the thing is, i know the tactics. I was doing quite well till i made a stupid mistake. The help I need now is, the game is acting like his defense isn't being taken down by the giant souls in my inventory??
If you summon a white phantom, ran past the fog gate of Royal Aegis Velstadt (which sends the phantom back to his world) and then enter the boss area of Vendrick, you will be able to inflict normal damage on him. (I have 4 giant souls on me, after trying this I did at least double the damage. Please confirm) (CONFIRMED - was dealing 198 dam before summoning white phantom, was nearly doubled, at 388 or so afterwards)
Due to the incredible damage and range of his sword, the best way to nullify Vendrick moves is to stay really close to him, hugging his left leg and keeping him rotating leftwards. This will ensure that his vertical and horizontal swipes completely miss. Most players will not have enough health or defenses to survive more than two or even one hit from his melee attacks."
According to Wikidot.
ill try out the white phantom thing, and if it doesnt work ill just get more giant souls
Make sure you also have a high amount of adaptability, above 100 agility will make the fight much easier, behing able to dodge all of his most dangerous attacks is way better than blocking.
Then stick behind his left leg, when he is using the heatseeking overhead slams his left leg will push you behind him allowing you to to deal damage meanwhile. If he turns and you end up at his right leg, you're in dangerzone.
With these tactics, some patience and a bit luck with his attack pattern he's a really easy fight.
Use any 100% shield and it will let you tank 1 hit. Do this while staying at his back and he can't do more than one attack at a time with more than enough time for you to recover. Then once you learn to roll for his attacks you can ignore a shield and 2 hand a weapon or double up weapons for more damage.
When he gets on a wall. Back off and bait him into walking away from it. With a shield you should be albe to afford to be a "little" sloppy with rolling and not flat out die.
In all the King isn't that hard of a boss, cheap as hell with his power, but not hard once you get past the soul gimick. Plus he is mindless even for how easy it is to normally mess with AI in games. The old Dragon is MUCH worse than the King. My opinion is that the Darklurker is even worse than both of them from not being cheap but spell spammy with everything having heavy homing or AOE then doubling his attacks half way in the fight.
Everything is beatable and these are optional bosses to begin with. Plus this is a Souls game. If it wasn't a challenge then it wouldn't be a Souls game. You are suppose to learn how to beat the game and not have the game give you the win. Long way to say "get gud" but Im wordy and wanted to type.
I know people say take your time and be patient, but the longer the fight draws out, the greater the chance that something goofy will happen. Unfortunately, this guy doesn't let you screw up at all. I beat him by being super aggressive on that left leg. I kept just enough stamina to sprint to him when he jumped back. If he got up against the wall, I'd run away and make him come to me. I think alot of it is just luck with his positioning. I beat him by keeping him in the center. If you try and fight up against the wall, it's over.
Edit*- Oh, and stay so close on the heel of that left leg, that when he does that really broad swing that turns him, his heel pushes you around too. This way you never end up in range of that swing.
