Character disappeared
After format my pc and reinstalling Darks Souls II all my character (NG+++) just disappeared. Whole progress is lost. Saves are not supposed to be in steamcloud (like in DS1)? Anyway, is there any chance to recover lost character?

DS2 doesn't have cloud saving, and nope. No way to recover it if it was lost in the format of your PC.

Basically steam sells the games but has no control of it lol

Just as I thought.
But why in the hell they disabled this feature?

Was it ever enabled? I don't get why this game doesn't have it, really.

Yup this just happened to me. Lost about 300 hours worth of characters. Guess I wont be playing the next 2 DLC's because I am not starting over.

Surprise, no Steam Cloud. Gonna have to start over.

Happened to me as well, just back up everything on another drive.

No, you have lost it.

Saves are located here (hidden folder): C:\Users\***your user***\AppData\Roaming\DarkSoulsII

People these days dont even know how to use a pc and format the harddrive and are stunned because all the saves are gone... Seriously, acting like this is stupid and you should always double check that all important data is saved.

not everyone here is an expert, and if you are new to Steam probably most of your games support Steam Cloud and you would expect a somewhat recent game the likes of DS2 to support this feature as well... pretty crazy how FROM does not care about key Steam services such as the mentioned Cloud and, what do you know, Steam VAC.

There is no steam cloud icon on the retail box and no steam cloud icon on the shop page, because u trust in steam cloud you should have seen that there is no steam cloud. Dont need to be an expert for this its the lazyness of the people, what makes me mad is that they blame the system for their own fault.

Not really, many games sold on Steam don't have cloud. It's not disabled because it's not even a feature to begin with.

There are methods of restoring deleted data on a HDD, unless you wiped the drive with multiple passes on format, they are still there, just overwritten and hidden.. but it requires specific software.
You can attempt to restore the files with this http://www.recovermyfiles.com/data-recovery-software-download.php, there is an evaluation version to try the software.
Note that this may not always work and some files may not be recoverable in all circumstances.

I recommend starting over, people actually got banned over using a backed-up save file... Yeah, FromSoftware is gay like that. Tough luck mate.

Six years later and this allowed me to recover from a catastrophic computer incident. Cheers!
