What are your stats?
Merkava 19 AGO 2014 a las 10:05
Depends on your stats, weapon preference and progress through the game. A quick list...

Int (Infuse with Magic for best results):
Blue Flame: http://darksouls2.wikidot.com/blue-flame
Moonlight Greatsword: http://darksouls2.wikidot.com/moonlight-greatsword
Watchers Greatsword: http://darksouls2.wikidot.com/watcher-greatsword
Crescent Axe: http://darksouls2.wikidot.com/crescent-axe
Dragonrider Bow: http://darksouls2.wikidot.com/dragonrider-bow

Faith (Infuse with Lightning for best results):
Heide Weapons:

http://darksouls2.wikidot.com/heide-spear
http://darksouls2.wikidot.com/heide-lance
http://darksouls2.wikidot.com/heide-greatlance
Defenders Greatsword: http://darksouls2.wikidot.com/defender-greatsword
Bow of Want: http://darksouls2.wikidot.com/bow-of-want
Thorned Greatsword: http://darksouls2.wikidot.com/thorned-greatsword

Dark (Infuse with dark for best results):
Silverblack Spear: http://darksouls2.wikidot.com/silverblack-spear
Crypt Blacksword. http://darksouls2.wikidot.com/crypt-blacksword
Scythe of Want: http://darksouls2.wikidot.com/scythe-of-want
Sacred Chime Hammer: http://darksouls2.wikidot.com/sacred-chime-hammer

Fire (actually do NOT recommend infusion in these cases):
Black Knight Weapons:
http://darksouls2.wikidot.com/black-knight-greatsword
http://darksouls2.wikidot.com/black-knight-halberd
http://darksouls2.wikidot.com/black-knight-ultra-greatsword
Smelter Sword: http://darksouls2.wikidot.com/smelter-sword
Chaos Rapier: http://darksouls2.wikidot.com/chaos-rapier

Pick the elment you like and the weapon type that fits you.

Anything Fire or Dark infused will work well.

For my magic guy (both int/faith) i first used Black Knight Halberd(from shaded ruins chest), then swapped to defender's greatsword.

But do you have plans on what stats are you going to get? Like, 40/50/60 faith/int. or so?

Any weapon you like and then do dark infusion.

My advice? Take advantage of the fact that you can ditch out 3 types of elemental damage. Carry one weapon of each element to complement whenever one fails to deliver. For instance there is this weapon selection...

Silverblack Spear for Dark Damage: http://darksouls2.wikidot.com/silverblack-spear
Blue Flame for Magic Damage: http://darksouls2.wikidot.com/blue-flame
and Defenders Greatsword for lightning damage: http://darksouls2.wikidot.com/defender-greatsword

The problem with this is that most of these weapons (save for Silverblack) are found rather late in the game. If you need a weapon to carry you until you can gain the Silverblack Spear in Earthen Peak then you can try Heide Knight Sword ( http://darksouls2.wikidot.com/heide-knight-sword ) which is found extremely early in the game and does great damage, namely when two handed.

This means that you will also have to invest in STR and DEX in order to gain the minimum stats required to wield those weapons (20-STR/16-DEX). Apart from that use the best catalist you can for all your magic needs, making the Magic Black Witch Staff ( http://darksouls2.wikidot.com/black-witch-s-staff ) your ultimate goal, its a pretty powerful staff (for magic) that can use miracles and all hexes.

The fire longsword you can find pretty much at the beginning is a good weapon for the first half of the game. And once you get to Iron Keep I would get the Uchigatana which is a very nice weapon for a caster since it does good damage when infused and has low str/dex requirements. It also upgrades with normal titanite.

After that I would decide based on what weapons work best for you. It never hurts to have a few different types of weapons to be able to deal with different situations and enemies in both PvP and PvE.

You could also try the Enchanted infusement if your Intelligence is good. Adds an INT scaling (usually D-grade, may eventually evolve to C-grade depending on the weapon) to a weapon's physical damage, at the expense of all other stat scalings though. (not useful for weapons that already deal magic damage though as the new INT scaling appears to override whatever INT scaling the weapon would already have)

This can sometimes be better than using an elemental infusion as you'll only have to worry about going through one type of defense, whereas weapons that also deal elemental damage (native or through infusement) have to deal with multiple types of defenses.

Problem with Enchanted path is that it seems to be bugged, whatever the scaling of the weapon the result is a very low scaling gain (roughly +50). There are extremely rare cases where Enchanted can be better (Enchanted Avelyn post nerf for example) but for the most part Raw outdoes enchanted in 99% of the cases.

I tried that myself and my Enchanted Longsword did 3-4 points more damage than mere +10 version (12 strength, 16 dex. and 60 int.).
