Straid's Cell bonfire? (Lost Bastille)

What is the point of this one!? I'm actually scared to use this bonfire incase i get swarmed with the exploding mummies, and what if they kill straid!? Is it safe? Can i walk up and talk to him with out getting spammed by mummies? Or is picking them off one by one through the stairs route better?

Just throw alluring skull in the wall and kill them.

If you stay in the cell they will come one at the time. First the one in the center will come, then the guy up in the right corner. Then you can go out and kill the one by the right of Straid, and then go and kill the one up left, before killing the guy with the other cell. He will stay inactive for a long time. If you go out before killing does two that come forward to you, the others will attack.

Also if you have bow and arrow, you can take three of them out from within the cell. An arrow one-shots them. But be aware that there are still two of them lingering by the walls, so stay alert.

Alternativley, you can just run down and bring the aggro there.
I find it much easier to deal with them in packs

Any Greatsword
Any Halberd

The mummies have huge hitboxes even after they jump at the very last second you can hit them easily.

Just don't panic.
