Heide Spear:
http://darksouls2.wikidot.com/heide-spear
Infused with Lightning and buffed with Sunlight Blade makes an insanely powerful PvE weapon, the ONLY problem is Sunlight's Blade low usage count. Even so it's pretty amazing even without the buff, It also has an amazing R2.
Silverblack Spear:

Same as Heide's, just dark element. The benefit of this one is that Dark Weapon (the Dark buff) has a LOT more usage than Sunlight blade, making whole trips between bonfires doable. It's 2 handed R2 isn't as great but it's an amazing weapon regardless.
Pate's Spear

This is the "best" spear if we speak in terms of RAW physical damage. It will get outclassed by Heide and Silverblack eventually but it has very nice base stats.
People mention Yorgh's Spear but can't say I am a big fan of it. People just seem to have a fascination with its diverse moveset but its damage isn't THAT amazing and it reduces your elemental defense.
Why people like Yorgh: best raw damage and longest reach. Moveset? Who cares, all you need to do is poke.
Or, or maybe, birds don't fly.
Heide for Physical + Elemental.
but i got a soft spot for the Winged Spear, because i like dressing one of my characters as a Roman Soldier, and it looks pretty neat.
Decreases Lightning, Magic, Fire and Dark Defense.
While increasing Poison, Bleed, Curse and Petrify.
So it is pretty much the optimal "do it all" PvE weapon, but unless you're stacked on resists + Ring of Dissipation, might screw you over in PvP.
I'd go for dual partizan's +10. They don't repe your stamina as bad as Yorgh's, are faster and deal just as much damage even with 40/40. Dual wielding any spear for PVE is terrible though since durability gets destroyed regardless. I'd recommend having a secondary pve weapon.
Also flame weapon on right hand, dark resin on left hand. Prepare to never lose in pvp with that ♥♥♥♥.

Being educated helps. Regardless, what I stated was an opinion, nothing else. Yogh's spear IS powerful but its extremely slow (this is specially important against bosses). But when you factor in DPS (damage per SECOND) then it's not that far ahead of a properly infused elemental spear. Not to mention that it weights a crap load and is anything BUT a spear (Its a lance for all intends and purposes).
Regardless, the TC said that he doesn't have DLC so Yorgh's is out of the question and he clearly states he is both early game and wants to dual wield poke. I haven't double stanced Yorgh's spear but I doubt it will come with a spear poke moveset.
It's all a matter of taste but if the TC likes spears and hopes that Yorgh's SPEAR is going to act like a spear at all then he's bound to be dissapointed. Ultimately it's worth a shot but thats pretty much endgame. Not to mention the TC plain said he doesn't want a Lance.
Heide's Spear isn´t that far of from where he is (just have to finish No Man's Wharf).
