Also the level/world design in DS1 is some of the best I've EVER seen in my career as a gamer. The way the levels interconnect and sprawl about is amazing and I haven't seen any game in the last decade (possibly Demons' Souls, but I never owned a PS3 so I can't say for sure here) have such strong level Design.
Actually Metroid Prime. Yea that got close. Can't remember what year that was though.
That said the level design in DS2 is still really good and kick most recent RPGs' level design out of the water (lookin at you Skyrim) but it doesn't reach the god like levels of DS1's maps.
As for PVP that's more subjective as they both have their ups and downs.
Combat wise, DS1 is still fantastic. No one can really disagree with that, but compared to DS2 it does feel a bit chunky.
EDIT: Forgot story. Derp. DS1 and DS2 have very similar quality over-arching stories, but DS2 fails in delivering the same quality of backgrounds to its locales, bosses, and NPC's. Still cool stuff there, but DS1 had many more memorable tales to be told in all three of those arenas and DS2's lack in these areas drags the main story down a notch or two because of it.
- DS1 wins with animations, at least based on weapon animations, in DS1 I really feel like I'm slamming a heavy Zweihander in the ground while in DS2 the animations feel too clean and precise. DS1 also had ragdoll physics although it often looked buggy it adds different feeling when you see enemy corpse fly in the direction your weapon was sending them, or when the great club pressed their body to the ground so that their arms and legs were shaking.
- Gameplay and PvP, both have pros and cons, I like both but DS2's feel smoother.
- Story and overall feel, DS1 takes this one.
- Map design and boss design, DS1.
- Items DS1, the items somehow feel really special in DS1 and there's a good arsenal of unique rings with unique effects.
- The weapon enchantments were also more hardcore in DS1.
- i-frames in DS1 were based on equipload which helped balancing heavier armors compared to lighter armors.
- Parrying was more a part of combat in DS1, rather than an instant K.O., and to do really high damage doing it you had to sacrifice things, now all you need is a dagger in one of your 3 weapon slots.
I love both games, and I play both from time to time. But mixing more of the good and hardcore things from DS1 into DS2 would have made it perfect.
DS3 needs a few immediate fixes..
instead of cross region option.. it should be a 250 PING or less option (150/250/350 options)
IN any PVP when someone dips over the set ping amount more then 3 seconds the PVP should cancel leaving both people back to normal with no negatives enforced
Should allow COSMETIC ONLY officially approved steam works (Much like how valve runs dota)
PVP rewards...
Bigger reward/story trees for convenants..
A soul memory removed special arena system for under lvl 100s,lvl 200s,300s.. so people can PVP in it regardless of soul memory..
just things like this and ill be very happy with DS3

cause officially its not.. 2 anyone other then a pauper its not.. and why would any non pauper person want a 1 platform exclusive souls game ??..
so dunno why your thinking itll be some successor to souls... itll be its own seperate thing.. in its own seperate way..
I hope bloodborne is a good game.. but its clearly not a souls game..
It's going to be made by Miyzaki, and he was the director of demon souls and dark souls. Part of the reason why I thought dark souls 2 was the inferior souls game was because I think From Software's B team was working on dark souls 2, while From's A team was working on Bloodborne with Miyzaki at the lead. I think it is unfortunate that the game is console exclusive, but than again sony did help make bloodborne and will probably help them on the techincal side with this game, something From Software was never great at.
I just going by all the information thats officially been said about the game.. its not a souls game.. the core mechanics are entirely different... the only thing that shows its even made by the same guy is the lazyness in using rehashed things but slightly upp'd..
no souls game will ever be a 1 platform exclusive.. FROMs has new owners and they spent alot of money buying them out.. FROMs got 1 huge money maker..souls games.. expect many souls games all multiplat..
this is part of the reason people are scared itll drop in quality and turn crappy.. but I like to think that the new budget/backing + the head guy in charge = awesome :P
time will tell..
maybe everyones wrong and instead of lots of new souls games theyll do lots of souls comics and that other crap the company is famous for...
I'm really confused by what your saying right now. But sure?!? Bloodborne isn't a exact souls game, but it will be similar to some extent and maybe a better term a spirtual successor to the souls games much like the souls games were to King's Field.
Regardless bloodborne is going to be and remain a ps4 exclusive due to Sony japan's invovlement like demon souls.
Not sure what your saying about Miyzaki, I hold him in the highest regard and can't wait for bloodborne to come out.
first real project since the new backing.. itll give us a look at the future of the souls game under the new direction..
LoL if u played this game as it was originally intended at the 1024 render cap then yeah its pretty ♥♥♥♥..
besides aint alot of DS2s downsampled from 4k ? thats what the mod guy said..
thats a bit jump up in graphics :P
Art style tho yeah DS1 has good art.. but they screwed up with the cap.. u needed a good mod and even then it wasnt as perfect as DS2s flawless graphics..
Want to know the real kick in the nuts about the greathammer weapons? Yes theyre way faster now, but you still cant hit anyone if they're rolling. I think its awesome how someone rolls by me, i remove the lockon and hit them mid roll, all for the game to tell me "we know you timed his roll but because ADP, were just going to defy physics and magically teleport him away from the space thats occupied by your big scary hammer." Way to neutralize your own improvement, Fromsoft. LAAAAWL xD
