DARK SOULS™ II
Manscorpion Tark: Community, I NEED Help
I am playing the Original on 360. I know this is Steam and PC, but the other online info I've dug up from various wikis hasn't told me what I need to know. This is a different approach to getting answers.

Has anyone had this happen before? Discover Tark the first time, not know what to do, and attack him because he looks like an enemy that aggro triggers by drop down?

I have learned now that he is an NPC, but here's the WEIRD issue. I DID NOT kill him and took a Homeward Bone to get away. I use the Bonfire for a reset and went back with the Ring of Whispers to try talking after some research.

I go back again and he's not stationary like before. He's randomly going around the sand pit and the only dialogue is an Exclamation Point and "The mad will never be forgiven."

Apparently that last line only plays when "encountered after defeat." He DID NOT kill me on the first time I attacked him and I didn't kill him. Why is that the only thing registering with him? I tried multiple resets on the Shaded Ruins bonfire and still the same result. Never killed him on any resets.

^^^Should I try other area bonfires and come back? ^^^

Has anyone else had this dilemma? I learned that NPC Aggro can get reset/fixed in Bright Cove past this area, but by then (from what I gather) the rewards you can get are scrapped from obtaining them until NG+. And the Souls involved just to make it work are obscenely high if you use Bright Cove to fix yourself and come back with an Ascetic.

If I have actually, irreversibly screwed up this NPC, the summoning, etc. on my NG file, please tell me. The more I've explored the apparent iceberg around this one NPC, the more I'm learning the developers may have majorly screwed this one up by their "figure out everything yourself" design.

Welcome to Tanimura's masterpiece: Dark Souls II.

If you kill Tark and wait 2.5 in-game hours you're gonna be able to revive him at his gravestone. Meaning you can still use his services, but his revival will only last until you load another area. Note that his summon will not be available after killing him (he's useless anyway). Killing him would be the best option in this scenario. Second Dragon Ring is a must have!

I forgot to mention that he gives you a gesture after defeating Scorpioness Najka.

So if you're going for the "Gesture Maestro" achievement, I suggest speaking to him after defeating her.
