That said the ultra greatsword was what ended up tearing me away from longswords and the like because of the pure damage it does.
I'm a Berserk fan and I like weapons with high damage, so the ugs was my goal from the start, as soon I had proper stats I adopted the ugs as my standard weapon in pve.
edit: apparently the zwei in dark souls 2 does the overhead slam with a one-handed r2 (I haven't used it in awhile_ but like I said, it's not the same.
Then, of course, being the newb I am I made my Bastar d Sword+10 raw because I was like "Oh dang, a free damage boost? Wow, thats OP as hell!" and promptly got destroyed when I went into NG+ on that save, and I even respecced for little to no strength just because it seemed to not make a difference, so I now have a 20 strength, i think 11 dex character with around 40 adaptability, 40 hp, 40 endurance, and 40 vitality. (The space between the r and d is intentional because steams swear filter blocks out that word)
No it's just a really good early game weapon as it has a fire infusion.
Partly is because I really don't like most sword animations it's why I either swing full STR or full DEX. Seems like a trivial reason but it does affect my enjoyment.
Though I did a jedi cosplay and used that thing the whole game as was the point and made some stuff a smidge tougher late game.
