I wish there was some explanation to it. It clearly has something to do with Licia showing up there but how does Licia's presence (someone who has high faith) make this orb show up? There's no faith based spells that are used to light up places (we have Cast Light for that). I guess the devs thought that people wouldn't try to analyze it. Licia is for the most part evil as she wants to usurp US but we don't know enough about her sadly. There's so much lacking in regards to her and her character. I loved the quest line for the Way of the White and their clerics in Dark Souls 1.
