Brightstone Cove Tseldora help with spiders
Hi guys, so I got to Brightstone Cove Tseldora and after a couple of sneaky spider attacks I realised I cannot go further here - got as far as the sand pit, where I always get swarmed by spiders out of nowhere. I have a pretty bad arachnophobia, so this area is a nightmare. I tried the torch but, surprisingly, the spiders did attack me anyway (I was in the sand pit, standing in front of a door, when they attacked me from behind).

I normally only play single-player, however, I don't think I get can through this area myself. Is there anyone who could help me get through the area? I'm a mage, level 96, I have 814k soul memory. Alternatively, if you guys know the reason why the torch wasn't working, that'd be helpful, too. Skipping the whole area by farming 1m souls is my only option otherwise, but I'd be sorry to miss out on the loot and story parts. Thanks!!

Also, I should add that I play on PC, I play the original DS2 (not a DLC) and I am not part of any Covenant.

It's been 2 years so quick recap:
Torches ward off spiders from attacking ONLY in scholar of the first sin version, if you have have that version the area becomes EASY (only the spellcasters can hurt you pretty much). In original just try to take it slow and watch playthroughs online for it, it's tough but playable. Not my favorite area in original, but easily one of my favorites in SotFS.
Spiders are weak to fire, use flame infused weapons to mow them down. The fire longsword is great for this area, it's a early game noob sword, but it works well, only use it up to Dragon Aerie however (Fire's useless after that, use lightning). To find it, look up a youtube video on it.
Long reach weapons are strong here, greatswords kick ass along with polearms. Avoid close quarters, and spam arrows if you want to cheese it. Lightning also works a treat, but spells aren't too good for some reason.
Sorry for nobody getting to you earlier OP, hope you made it out alright.

Thanks for the tips!
So, the trouble was really more the fact that the sneaky bastards even kept attacking me & ganging up on me at all (instead of standing back, being afraid of fire, like I was hoping :), rather than my not having been able to kill them.
I have to say that even though I have had arachnophobia my whole life, I don't recall having had issues with spiders in video games UNTIL this place in DS2 :D Honestly - I think they just broke me :D
And in the end, my husband agreed to do the area for me - which enabled me to continue with the game.

That's awesome, hope you enjoyed the game in the end! Hopefully anyone stumbling across this nowadays can see the recap and get why torches didn't work. Cheers

I don't browse the DaS2 discussions much nowadays but I just happened to be here and noticed what you said about the fire longsword. It is a useful sword for MOST of the game, but there is one area way before the Dragon Aerie where it sucks. The infamous Iron Keep, aka where most Dark Souls 2 pvp happens (the Iron Keep bridge). The armor that the Alonne Knights and Alonne Captains wear gives them a ton of fire resist, so fire infused weapons and pyromancy are basically useless there (except for those poison pyromancy spells of course). The Fire Longsword is a crutch for noobs/new players because of it's good damage, even if you don't level up int or faith, but then they arrive at the Iron Keep and their +7 or +8 Fire Longsword becomes useless. It's always good to have a un-infused weapon for the Iron Keep (or have it infused with anything but fire).

You always have a +10 at Iron Keep and if you buy the lightning infusion, (let alone imbue a weapon with lightning,) you can one shot all the Alonne Knights in Iron Keep. I remember doing it all with the Lucerne on the way to plat and I just did again now with a Black Knight Halberd. I was 2 shotting with a +6 Schimitar.

I agree by the way, fire is an awful infusion for a weapon in majority of the game.

This is why I never liked participating in discussions here (or in forums for dark souls games in general). There's always at least one ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ who makes it his job to disagree with everything I say.

Don't whine so much, you'll go hollow.

King Robert Baratheon,

It is called a discussion for a reason, people have different opinions. Besides, he didn’t say anything wrong, just expanded your post. Don’t cry so much next time.

Incase this hurts your feelings even more Robert, it is because you think people are out to get you and disagree with you. I more or less agreed with you and talked about how useful lightning is in Iron Keep. In a game like Dark Souls there are many ways to play, there's naught wrong with talking about these things. It isn't a personal attack, especially when I mostly agree with you and specifically said I agree. I'm sorry you felt I was attacking you or arguing but it is definitely not a failure on my end, I was very open, polite and clear. So please don't take comments so hard and personally, it is just discussion. And for what it is worth I agree with majority of your profile and reviews, so I am beyond confused on why you were so dfensive. Please have a nice day, I'm not out to get you, I just wanted to add that lightning is good for Iron Keep especially, not fire weapons.
