I never listened to dark souls 2 through expensive headphones and I love dark souls 2 for it's functionality (still has real poise, better combat animations than das1, casting magic is actually fast and aggressive compared to casting magic in das1, and some other stuff) but I always thought the sound design was pretty crappy. The way weapons (specifically ultra greatswords and great hammers but large weapons in general) sounds on impact are nowhere near as satisfying as in dark souls 1 (the sound of a two-handed zweihander R2 in dark souls 1 is so f*cking satisfying). It's such a sharp, but booming slam sound.
Oh yeah those are actually great. Well in the Lost Bastille I only think of some of the ambient sounds as impressive. Like in the room where you find the parrying dagger and the twinblade there's some ambient noises that play after you access the illusory walls with the pharos lockstone (the scream you here is pretty spooky). The only "problem" with that is it doesn't match the area imo. There's no evidence of anything scary or supernatural in the lost bastille. That same sound clip is actually heard in Oolacile in Dark Souls 1. Why I think it fits that area well is that the whole city is being devoured by the abyss and it's inhabitants were driven insane by their humanity being corrupted, turning them into these alien-like humanoid monsters. Also the bloathead sorcerers in oolacile are female (you can tell when they laugh) so when I would hear that scream in Oolacile I liked to think it was a woman being corrupted by the abyss/dark and turning into one of the bloathead sorcerers to add to the creepy atmosphere. There's nothing creepy about or in the Lost Bastille.
Sorry for the wall of text.
