Looks promising for a 4x vet.
Juts played the tutorial and its look very promising for a 4x player.Nice turn based tactical combat.Clean UI.Strong theme.

Do not expect eye candy with flashy real time battles but it seems to have the meat where it counts.

Is it stable? Few crashes? Let me know!
Maximilian 2. juli 2013 kl. 15.47
Game seems to be stable on my rig. I haven't had crashes or hit any game breaking bugs in the early game. The game actually works, now that I said that I fully expecting blue screens of death. But seriously, I had no crashes or WTF bugs yet.

Heck I was lucky, I didn't even get any bugs yet (or at least noticed any while playing).

Stable for me. 5 hrs without any CTD, or wtf-bugs.
Game looks realy strong for alpha. Nice combat system.
I want more content! )

Why can't we play other races?

Where did the devs say that?

From Horizon's main page it says,

As humanity's leader, you will explore deep space, find new frontiers and discover alien artifacts hidden on long ago abandoned planets. You will also learn more about the galaxy as you come into contact with other species.
That's the human part but nowhere can I find anything about being able to play the other races. Did the devs say they are planning on doing that somewhere? I would love to know more details!

To follow up my post, I did some more digging and found the following interview with Strategy Informer.

http://www.strategyinformer.com/pc/horizon/458/interview.html

In the Interview this is what is said:

Strategy Informer: Tell us a bit about some of the design choices you made for Horizon – we understand you only get to play as the Humans initially?

Raffi Parsekhian: That’s right. We’ve focused on the human’s initially. We will probably... maybe as an add-on, we could probably allow the player to choose the other races. You start with the humans, because the story is based on the humans, and Horizon is about Humans conquering space. The story itself has real-life events in it, like the NASA-2 Probe. The story starts there, and something happens, which then kicks everything off, and you’re in charge in the human effort of becoming a space-faring race. And from there you meet the other races etc...

Sound promosing but I think I'll wait until the game is at least in Beta.

If you go to the forums, you can find a couple of comments about this subject. As mentioned the game focuses on the human's story. There will be a player's race customisation feature, it was just disabled for this stage of the Early Acces (you can see the tool tip if you mouse over the Earth Alliance icon in the new game set-up screen).

They did tease to consider the option of letting you play one of the pre-made races for the future, but that is probably post release. However, for now...

...the race customiser that should be available later during the Early Access will let you pick any traits and create your own unique 'race'. Though it might need mods to get custom visuals for it. That said, they did mention options of what you can do with the customiser (including using visuals of pre-exsiting races) are still on the table for consideration.

When looking at the screen shots some reminded me of certain MoO2 aspects; did someone who bought it already get the impression, the game leans towards MoO2 (which wouldn't be a bad thing at all...)? Tactical combat system for example: is it somehow reminiscing of this good old turn-based one, where you'd deploy all your cunningly designed custom ships? Judging after the screen shots & content description, ship customization seems to be a big feature after all.

If the depth of gameplay and variety of game features is anywhere close to the classics of the last millenium, I guess I'll give it a try in any case - so please let me know your experiences!

I am hopeful for this game as well. It is exactly the style of 4X I love. I still play Armada 2526 (/w Supernova). If L30 pulls this off and implemnents everything in well, this game will be a gem. I wish you had more zome control on the tactical map, I don't mind the graphics actually. I want good gameplay.

I suspect the release version will still be lacking, but I still think they have a chance to pull enough off to still be worth my $20, and with continued support... this game has a chance to become one of my classics.
