I wish I could rate this game
Unfortunately, I can't. I get about three or four colonies going and some alien race just wipes me out. And I'm playing on the easiest setting. I'd like to not auto-resolve every combat but its as if the camera position is in a galaxy far far away and I can't see a damn thing. I suddenly find myself in a battle screen and apparantly there's an enemy out there... behind a planet or something so it doesn't come up as a red spot on the mini map... Sigh... I've had the game for several hours and I usually play through a game like this on the easy setting so that I can work it out - learn the UI, and progress through the material without dying or losing... That's why they call it the easy setting...

I've tried both the classic and the quest setups without any hope of actually seeing the game. Most of the material in the manual hasn't come up which is also disappointing. Anyway, I'll have another look later after this problem has been rectified.

Your best option is to start a very large map with only a few AI opponents to allow you time to build up your colonies.

you have to use engage sector to get manual control of the ships in that sector, otherwise it will start out in auto. If you couldn't see the ship it probably had a stealth device

I've found the game to be insanely easy. 1 missile base can basically destroy anything the computer will throw at you.

And there's not always an enemy, it seems to just randomly take you into combat even if there's nothing there to fight.

It usually happens when an enemy scout may pass close to a planet orbit, they are usually too far away to trigger combat.
