By Metroidvania, I mean that levels have alternate paths that you won't get to experience the first time you visit them, as you don't have the required abilities. As for Action-RPG elements, well, you have an equipment system, an item-crafting system, you choose where to assign stats as you level up, and there are a number of quests (both story and side-quests) to undertake.
The game definitely feels more like an RPG than Muramasa, and has more overall depth to it. Muramasa has more variety in its combat though. Both are truly excellent games that I highly recommend.
I'm guessing you came from /v/.
