Definitely go with the weakening equip. I got 1k+ hits easy in the Sorrowing Meadows, or down in the caverns (where you drop down into an entire field of enemies). Just keep going back to the earlier areas, I dont think NPCs sell the weakening equips.

i havent found the weakening equip yet, ive only got a few % left on 3 or 4 maps

I just found it on my replay. It's called Ugly Pendant. You may get the blueprints early on, and if you did, the merchant should be selling it. I got my pendant from before the Mudpot village phase. Also, I got my 1k hit combo way early in Archer's Pass, a combo between the tons of birds and ground monsters. It bears to say, I play in Tough, so my Fidget attacks do like 7-14 damage. Try unequipping everything (except your defense items), and going forward, focus on leveling only your HP and defense, so your attack and Fidget storm are weaker for the monsters ahead. I always level HP/Defense first, and the rest only to advance my HP, so they are 3-4 gems below.

If you play on the highest difficulty, monsters are more than tanky enough for you to get it even very early (as early as the first boss encounter in fact, as the two golems are slow so it's easy to avoid being combo breaked, and they have very high health). I also found out that it's super easy to get it from the area left to that subterran town after you unlocked that part. Just keep advancing while killing /damaging them and the 1k is super easy, I think I went up to 1k4 here.
No need to wait for weakening equip.

Actually it is called the Ugly Pendant, it reduces your attack and defense stats to x0.1 along with Fidget's attack being reduced to x0.1.

Just make Fidget as weak as possible, then spawn the electric attack while eating something that heals you for like 20 health. Whenever you eat, your energy fully restores. Easy.

I've found it's best to get this right away at Oneidas farm. Take off any equipment and when the 2 giants apear just air spiral and dust storm them back and forth. You'll have the combo in no time.

Easiest way to get this one (at least imo), is at the start with those 1+2 giants. Couple Fidget's projectiles with your aerial dust storm for a high-combo low-damage frenzy, but don't forget to keep an eye on your energy. Spin through the giant(s) every now and then to replenish your gauge.
iirc, I managed to get a combo of well above 3k with this method.
