And they fired the community manager for LBY so nobody is around to delete the discord either.
I like to think that these will always be around as a monument to Paradox's failure.
i just download or modify existing building to match the character numbers im playing on the lot/house.
i just want the gameplay and AI smarter then the ones in sims 3.
I totally agree. I love The Sims 3 but you have to put SO MUCH WORK into setting it up. I just want a new life sim like it but with modding already integrated into it, etc.
Oh yeah, the essential mods aren't many, but if I really want to customize the game to the way I want it to, then yeah, I implement A LOT of mods. And that's not a bad thing. It's why I love The Sims 3 so much.
For example, you can play the game even without mods at all. That is a game in itself to see how much you can do within the game and make it complex somehow. I actually play it that way once in a while because the challenge is so much fun.
But one of my favorite ways to play The Sims 3 is by setting up a zombie apocalypse survival game. And you do need a lot of different mods to make the game behave that way. But I figured out, once I've set up the world and play through the story/challenges. I just zip up the whole folder and mark it as "Zombie Apocalypse Challenge". That why I don't have to go through the long process of picking out the mods for it and making sure it all works together the way I want.
By the way, Isla Paradiso isn't broken. The reason why it freezes up is that the houseboats have one entrance into it and it is only one tile wide. So if two sims are trying to leave or enter at the same time, it freezes up. So I've taken out all of the houseboats except for my own. Also, a lot of the houses have too narrow hallways. I fixed ALL the houses so that their halls are at least two tiles wide. It took a long time to work on but I consider that part of the game play. I LOVE that world! It plays super smooth for me now. I won't blame the world and home creators for that - that expansion was I think the hardest one to create and they didn't have to time to fully know how it all worked.
I think my only complaint is that The Sims 3 is so old and I get nervous about EA not maintaining it. I'm hearing some people with Windows 11 not being able to play The Sims 3 and this is why I'm still on Windows 10.
I love The Sims 3 but I really want a newer version of it to be able to play for the next 20 years!
And Paradox could have made bank doing exactly that, but they got cold feet instead.
A shame. The only project even attempting to make a worthy sequel to the Sims 3 is a fan project and it is still years out.
Ugh, yeah! I don't blame Paradox Tectonic, the development team, at all, but Paradox Interactive didn't understand how much effort is required. All they had to do is look at Maxis and how many people actually worked on just one iteration of The Sims. The bigwigs probably thought they would just need a small group like with Cities: Skylines but I don't think they realized how much work a life simulation really is. I also think they didn't give it enough time. When The Sims 1 through The Sims 3 were being made, Maxis worked on it way long (I'm talking YEARS) before they would announce it.
I'm praying for another game publisher to try their hand at creating a new life sim or picking up Life by You and complete it, but who? A lot of them are so untrustworthy right now. I know EA is making The Sims 5 but I don't plan on pre-ordering it or buying it day one, like I did with the previous The Sims iterations. I'm going to wait several years to see if it works well.
LBY was in production for four years before it was announced... and by most accounts of those who actually played it, it was in decent shape. I am beginning to believe those conspiracy theories that either EA or Tencent killed it... and I'm leaning toward Tencent.
It is hard for me to forgive Paradox for this. They have to really shape up before I buy another Paradox title.
I didn't know Tencent had something to do with this game. Could you tell me more about how it is involved?
Since I don't know much about Tencent's involvement, I'm leaning more toward EA. EA would have had the most to lose if LbY was a success. Now I'm fearful that they're going to slack on making The Sims 5 a great game. *Sigh....*
Tencent owns ten percent of Paradox, and they are also the publishers of InZoi. The theory goes that Tencent used its influence to kill LBY, whereas as far as I know EA doesn't have any leverage over Paradox.
Ah, I see! I'm not sure how owning 10 percent of Paradox would have been able to kill LbY though because if LbY had become a success, Tencent would have benefited from that game while also developing and selling Inzoi. If you looked up Tencent, they've invested in other games that are in the SAME GENRE and wouldn't kill one game to push another one. I read this one article from 2020 that says Tencent invested only FIVE percent in Paradox:
https://www.pcgamer.com/every-game-company-that-tencent-has-invested-in/
So I'm back to EA who really had the most to lose if LbY became a success.
Well, it probably could've been either. I don't really trust EA or Tencent... or even Paradox for that matter.
I agree about Paradox too. But their cancelling LbY makes me think they didn't anticipate how complex a really good life sim game is.
If you look at The Sims 3, that wasn't just made in 4 years. The culmination of previous years of experience from The Sims 1 and The Sims 2 brought us the most excellent The Sims 3. Life by You didn't have this past experience and the Paradox Interactive bigwigs didn't understand that like the previous EA CEOs did. I feel really bad for Rod Humble - this must have really frustrated him.
