Combat is really bad, am I missing something?
So there's a block mechanic, but there's no point trying to block when enemies repeatedly attack with no pauses. If you attack right after they do, you get hit by the next attack anyway. I could see it maybe being useful in a co-op situation where one person just blocks while the other hits.

I don't think there is a parry mechanic? I've tried to block when they attack, but the responsiveness is so slow that I'm either missing it, or there is no parry.

Half the time when I spam attack I'm getting hit and it's cancelling my animation. So there's really nothing I can to but get hit 2-3 times for every time I'm hitting.

I've tried using a bow and arrows, but I only get about a hit or two in and they're on top of me, so I have to melee anyway.

I'm at a point where I can't progress without going into areas where I have to fight several things. Between the combat mechanics, and weapons needing repair constantly... I really don't wanna do it.

So far I'm enjoying everything else about this game, but combat is a real bummer. Is there some trick I'm missing? I know I suck at combat, but dang. ;)

You have pretty much summed up all the flaws in the combat system. The non-stop rapid attacks that do not allow for an attack-block-attack sequence, and attacks that repeatedly stun you out of your own animation.

There are a lot of good things about the game, but the combat is truly awful. And as you say tackling multiple enemies is an unavoidable part of advancement. Luckily I played most of the time with a partner, and combat with two people is much much easier, but whenever we had to go it solo, it was a struggle.

Yup, I'm another that agrees with all that has been said.

I honestly think and hope that combat gets reworked, because it doesn't really work at present.

did u try to use different armor and update your armor and various combat skills? it will make you almost invincible in the end:). and of course using a good weapon will help a lot u can find some places with some weapons and later buy a couple of bp's from Fred to craft nice swords.

For now, blocking system works against humanlike enemies for example like skeletons which you are going to meet later. At the moment, animals AI is pretty simple we are going to revamp it in the future and will make it more complex. Unfortunately, now we are working on optimization and bugs fixing which is more important in the present circumstances.

Good to know! Knocking out bugs and performance issues is a good priority. Thank you for replying.

The bad AI on the animals is really blocking progress and enjoyment of this game. They always gang up on you in 2's and 3's and spot you from a long way off. Have you thought about reducing the number of creature spawns or reducing damage till the AI issue is sorted?

[/quotetU know once u upgrade your skills and craft a good weapon or find weapon u'll be smacking those animals with one hit:). But it the beginning just be careful kill them one by one, don't let them atack u all at once. Btw, did u craft a bow and lots of stone arrows? Start killing them at a good distance and don't let them bite u, always move and never stop. Did u find rusty swords, they are really good before u craft an iron sword?

I was fighting a young wolf and I saw its health go up as I was trying to stab it with a spear. That seems to be some supernatural healing right there. I always try to face the creatures 1 on 1 but in the palace, there always seem to be multiple enemies zero in on you and if you try to run to separate them, after a while they just vanish and respawn with full health. I wont unlock iron weapons till I can find the mine and finish the blacksmiths quest, but exploring the palace grounds is quite hazardous with snakes and larva everywhere.

All good. The weapon options at the start were a club or a stone spear so I went with the spear. The spear is terrible. Most of the time you cannot even hit the target as they close in on you too quickly. If you find a rusty sword, that is a better option but then you need the advanced weapon repair kits to keep it maintained which means finding the mine and unlocking smelting and blacksmith benches, plus buying the recipes.

Early game the bow seems the best option but only if you can find a high perch and shoot from a distance where the creatures cannot get to you, and always remember to go collect the arrows again. :)

For the mines, you can walk along the tops of the columns and shoot the mobs from there, or just stand on the cart, they can't hit you. Just shoot them with arrows till they are all dead. And don't forget to recover your arrows. You probably won't be able to find the ones you shoot from a distance. They bounce off the animals. Why that is, I have no clue. They should be sticking out of them so at least you can get them when you skin the creature.

I really recommend holding the arrow key that matches the direction you wish to attack. I put my theory to the test and gathered up as many skeletons as I could when I was in the palace and ran them onto the bridge. I was able to keep attacking as I held the forward key with no interruptions to my attacks. Even with 3 to four skeletons swinging on me, it didn't matter. Yes my hp took a beating for doing this, but I was able to mow down enemies this way. I tested it out against 2 wild boars and a fox at the same time. Same result. Hold the forward key key while attacking and your attacks don't get interrupted as frequently. Interruptions still happens but definitely a much lower rate. Just be cautious of your hp.

I don't like to criticize developers. But I can't understand why they even released this game on early access with such a horrible animal AI. If you fight one on one, you can block and even hold your own. But when you are double teamed, the attacks are relentless and they block your ability to swing your weapon. Even with the fastest sword doing 25 damage, level 28 with all the skills upgraded and the max armor, Two spiders took 90% of my health because of being unable to swing. And suddenly a third showed up seemingly out of nowhere. I kept hitting the mouse button but nothing was happening. So weapon quality and armor quality don't help if you can't fight.

u know that animals in every location become more and more dangerous, it will be silly if all the animals were of the same level and u could kill them with just one swing of a sword this would be boring:). and u have to be careful not to let animals close around u:). it'a a damned place it can't be called damned for nothing lol. so there's nothing wrong in dieing - it's a learning process:). i'm sure u'll pass the location! as for ai, the devs said that they will fix it, don't be harsh on them, they need your support:).

I've found that spear is not good a sword works better I would always be backing up and i would get more hits in the beginning now i can punch everything to death
